ParticipantHello All
I have a Hygena Intergrated APL 8224/1 dishwasher. Today the water has stopped heating up and I can see that the elemant is damage/corroded. I have two questions: –
1. Is it easy to fit? From what I can see there is one screw in side supporting the element and the rest are underneath.
2. Is it worth spending the £60 on the element or better of putting towards a new dishwaher?
Any advise is appreciated
Cheers Phade.

Where on earth did you get a price of £60 from? Outrageous. If you drop an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk and ask for an HY34101, you’ll get a very pleasant surprise…….

Bit fiddly, but not difficult. Power off, of course.
Let us know how you get on.

Well the part has come today and it is now fitted with now problem BUT where the element is supported in the dishwasher should the element touch the metal of the support bracket or should there be an insulator of some sort? The reason I ask is I opened the dishwasher halfway through a cycle to see if the water was getting hot and it was but the first part of the element was glowing red? is this correct, I have never open the dishwasher during a cycle before?

You may have a water distribution problem that caused the original element to fail by the sound of it.
The water doesn’t always cover the element in many dishwashers, it relies on it dropping or spraying around via the spray arms which may be blocked, check both spray arms especially the lower one as they are prone to splits along the seams.

Hello Dave
The bottom spray distributor is fine as far as I can tell, I have taken it out and forced water through it and it only come out of the spray holes. I am really at a loss at the moment as I do not know if it is supposed to get that hot? I would have thought not. I am also pretty sure that in this dishwasher the water does not cover the element. Any further advise is appreciated.

Hi All
Update time: –
Just incase one end of the element was not connected corretly and the element was finding another route for the current I swapped the element connection over to see if the other end glowed red. As it happens it works perfectly now!! The other thing I have noticed is that there is more water in the dishwasher now as well. It may have been an air lock in water system casing lack of water to cool the element? Any thoughts? If it is not the case I will up date you.

If you tipped it back to fit the element, you may have thrown the water level control somewhat, or disturbed some internal sludge somewhere.
Glad it’s settled down, anyway.

Hello Penguin/Dave
I was wrong, I put the dishwasher on this morning and checked again after about 10 minutes, the element was again glowing but the other side this time (as I had swapped the element connections). This must mean that the is a faulty connection from the one side of the element or could it be a defective termostat that is not switching off the element? I have read a few posts were the wiring loom is faulty, could this also be the case?
