We have a 10 year old APL8224-1, which stops at various points in the cycle (always the same points) and does not continue until the switch is manually clicked on (it works perfectly well then). This is what it does:

    1. Starting from economy setting, it runs for 1 minute (water goes in at this time).
2 Next it stops during the wash with the dial at approx 25 to the 12.00 o’clock point.
    3. Then it stops when it gets to the rinse sign
    4. Then it continues until the programme end.

Is this a fault with the timer? Or is it something else? Given the age of the machine, if it is the timer unit, we will spend £62 on the part and replace ourselves but we might be of the view that it is better just to get a new machine if we are just going to have a series of things go wrong with it or have to call out an engineer (and given that MFI are in liquidation and parts are a problem). My husband took the side panel off to look at the various chambers but nothing looks amiss there.

It’s the old Brandt machine. IIRC, there are three transfer hoses which run across the bottom of the machine – these are prone to sludging up. Removal and cleaning of the hoses and the spigots may make a difference. Also worth removing the door outer panel and checking for broken wiring at the pivot point.

    Power off first, of course.
