ParticipantI have been called to look at this machine. No drum action. I’ve checked the motor brushes, and the module looks ok. The timer is not indexing on.
Can I take it this is a Timer fault? There is still no drum action, even if you move the timer by hand.

Yes, that’s the right module number, there’s a sticker down by the filter, with the motor, module, and various other part numbers. Saying there differant to the APM8512

Check the two big ceramic resistors near one end of the module.

If the ballast resistors fail, the door will lock and nothing else will happen. This particular machines’ only problem was that the motor wouldn’t run, so that’s a specific failure within the circuitry, rather than the board being effectively out of circuit.

Did this get sorted? ‘Cause I’ve got APM8513/2 same problem. Motor absolutely refuses to move at any point. True I didn’t take brushes off (it was late) but the m/c is in a holiday cottage and has had little use. There was a good circuit through brushes, through field coil, through motor TOC, and tacho measured something believable.(180? IIRC)
Timer goes very quiet at times then seems to gently tick back into life (I’m not talking abouting heating phases).
I tried shorting out the heatsinked triac (presumably motor). That led to some coughing from the pump 😕 but still no life from motor.
Pump runs Ok and fills and drains and heats fine.
I’ve got the module here now. Resistors I checked on site. No burns. Going to go through it with fine toothed comb tomorrow. It’s just two relays, some resistors, some diodes, a few capacitors, few triacs and the flat black centipede. It looks shiny brand new, what could possibly be wrong? 😡
EMW will only get the business after I’ve had a damn’ good look. What magic are they using?

Resistor “R1” appears to be a regular problem.
Perhaps a little unreasonable to expect Tony to divulge his secrets…….. 😀

Checked R1 and R3, the 6.2k’s, on site. In fact I packed a kit to sort that before going to the job, having only, “built-in washer, no make to be seen, no spin” to go on 8) . Will rigorously check them again of course.
Incidentally, what you’re saying now seems to contradict what you said in Nov. last year, in this same thread 😕 .
I’m sure Tony is no more worried about me putting him out of business than we are worried about the public learning too fast and catching up with us. I ain’t got time; they ain’t got time. 😀

Doh :error: .
Read 6.2k across each of them and thought, “Oh well, not that then.”
Just forgot that they’re mounted in parallell. So reading should have been 3.1k. One of them is indeed O/C. (R3 though, not R1, so you were wrong there Chris :snigger: )
So Chris triumphs again. Checked all the other likely stuff and all seems OK.
So back with it next week and fingers crossed. Meanwhile can anyone explain to me what the function of these resistors is and why one down = (I hope) no motor?
