ParticipantFollowing on from my post in Tech enquiries about indesquit wm12xuk bearing seals( I don’t know how to link to it 😥 .
Got a call late this morning’ It has a rattle on it’
No problem I’ll be back on monday 2/4 as nobody was in till after 2 and I am stuffed for time today. Customer happy!! I thought.
Then get a call about 1.30 ‘Somebody from this house rang to ask for a call, I want it today!!’
Again I told her Monday as I by this time had finished and was on my way somewhere else.
She asked the same question 3 times same reply.
Then comes ‘Do you Know ** *******, I used to work for them( Local Agent) and asked them about the repair and they said you never use sealant on a machine, a seal is a seal :con: . I’d told her I’d used silicone sealant on the face seal and not to use the machine straight away to let it set (with being an Indesit every bit of help is needed), so I’ve cancelled the cheque 😈 and am reporting you to T.S. and making it public’.
I have bent over backwards for this wasp and thanks to Indeshits crap parts info (they are being beckoned on Monday to do a full report :rotl: )
and the fact that some arse local repairer has sided with her I now have to get legal.
I probably get one of these idiots a year, the type that feel that every tradesman is lowlife before you even walk in the door, thanks to this ‘whatever from hell’ t.v programmes. The type that feel they’ve caught you out somehow if things don’t go exactly to plan (thanks again to Indeshit for this), and no matter what you say only see their one blinkered side of things because of it.Am I getting bitter in my old age…….YOU BET 👿 😈 👿

I`ve just had one of them this morning 😡 .
Replaced door interlock(1602390) on her WM52 yesterday and also replaced the latch plate as it was cracked. Left one very happy customer getting her washing machine repaired on a Saturday at very short notice at a total price of £45.Phone call this morning telling me door has fallen off and after asking her a few questions it would appear the hinge has broken. She`s not going to be in all day tomorrow so we agree I would do it Monday evening and tell her I`ll do it for reduced charge of £25 all in.
A few minutes later the daughter in law is on the phone demanding I do the job free of charge as it was the door I fixed already. After trying to explain the situation and telling her I wasn`t willing to do job free of charge she said she`ll take it up with trading standards.
Never actually had this experience before and your views on the situation would be most welcome.

Bryan, to offer a reduced charge is exactly where we would go too. Stick to your guns. We always offer to revisit under our guarantee, and often find face to face it’s a different ball game.
Tony, having already learned the lessons its why I don’t repair any chargeable calls for Indesit/Merloni/hotpoint…..I just don’t need the hassles, I’m too busy repairing other makes to bother with what 10 years ago was my “bread and butter” calls. Thats the depths the brand has dropped to, and theres no easy way back.

hi
when i take payment if it cheque i always put down cheque guarantee card most of them , have got a limit of £150.00 to £250.00 so that way they can not stop a cheque or can they? After all if customers are not going to trust you than you have to protect yourself .October 23, 2005 at 6:07 pm #151428Martin

Ditto on pup’s reply….always get that cheque guarantee number, date of expiry and value writen on the back  No cheque guarantee?….no point in accepting a cheque!
It is so easy to forget to insist on this procedure after all the sweat you put in to fix the machine and likely repocussions if something goes wrong. Pack up your tools and walk away knowing you have the money and not just a worthless piece of paper! 👿

Use your Mum’s phone – they won’t recognise the number. Then you get to advise them of the potential bill when the detective agency finally tracks them down. Might not work, but immensely satisfying.

County Court, small claims. They have committed an offence under the theft act section 3.
You can do it on line, will cost about £30 which you get back, and they have no defence.
The last one I had, I called in the bailiffs as he still didn’t pay up. They repossesed his car. All because a cheque bounced for £177. With the court costs etc, it was a hell of a lot more.
If you use a body like the Bureau of Credit Management, they have a good official letter that scares most defaulters into paying up. There is a lot of info on them within this site, but it happens to be in the subscriber forum.
There was a card number on the rear of the above, but it was only good for cheques up to £100. If it is a bouncer, and only just over the limit, the bank will still refuse the whole amount. I mistakenly thought that I was always guaranteed the 1st £100.

Oh the gerneral public,
Well my case goes to court in 2 weeks and I get to find out my fate, for not fitting a module on a saturday morning at a call I first looked at on the friday PM and had to order the module.
She demanded nearly £300 in damages because I did not repair her machine quickly enough for her (called in another firm within 3 days, 2 of which were a weekend), and is pursuing it through the small claims court.
More info can be found in the legal section about it all.
Nothing suprises me any more, to the point i’ve removed my Yellow Pages ad and am sticking to what ever I get from here and the regular customers such as OAP homes and the college.
As much as those rouge traders type TV shows highlight the more sinister actions of some traders, and the trading standards being so quick to advise (often in the wrong circumstanses), the general public are starting to believe that every trader is a bad trader, and do goody family members that have seen the TV shows are wrongly advising our customers and making them think that they are being ripped off.
My run in with Mrs Miles was the point I lost all faith in this industry as an independent, and I am now seriouly looking at another source of income.
I have no idea what will happen in court, she has made false accusations and quoted Trading standards as demanding my actions, which I have written evidence they did not, from trading standards.
If the court rules against me I will be packing it all in, and if the go in my favour I will be seriously be considering what area of the trade I will be sticking to.
