ParticipantI went to one of his many properties to find the fault of a 20 years old Whirlpool oven. Turned out that a temper limiter was blown.
The fact is that the parts is special order – we all know what this means 2-3 weeks for the part sometime a month.
Landlord not happy and went to speak to Whirlpool and says he can get it in 7 days. Good for him but he wants to know why I can’t get it in 7 days and why my charges for the part is £2 dearer. He wants to know why did I not approach to Whirlpool. He hasn’t worked out that I can get the parts a lot cheaper via my suppliers. Why do I need to approach Whirlpool for parts? There’s nothing in it for me.
I really do resent Landlord doing this. I can’t decide whose worse landlords or tenants.

Hi
I always say if you can get it cheaper then do so but they suffer the costs if it fails as they purchased the parts not me. Had a customer who needed a £145 part that the manufacturer (westin cooker hoods) don’t give trade or engineer discounts and the customer was happy for me to order and put 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} mark up as it would then be covered by me.

You’ve just hit my biggest hate right on the head. Riles the hell out of me, and even the general public will now source parts cheaper and sometimes quicker and expect us to be happy that they’ve saved us the trouble of getting parts. Surely they’re not all naive enough to think that we don’t make a small profit on the spares

Spoke to a mate the other day who went out to a fixed price repair. The cost of parts exceeded the charge the client paid, so there doing a refund, the client though kickin off and stated that she was not told there was a limit and assumed the repairs the company do that dont cost much cancelled out the high cost repair.
So she paid £120.00 and assumes this would cover the £280.00 worth of parts required on the 8yr appliance.
Yeah business is all about giving back to people.

I didn’t know Whirlpool sold to non account holders. Thier website links through to 4whirlpool, ie Connect Distribution. If what the landlord says is true, try seeing it from your customer’s point of view:
If your van was off the road and the local independent garage quoted 2-3 weeks lead time for the spares you would not be too impressed if you discovered your local dealer could get hold of the parts next day.

But apart from one or two, very high end Marques your local indie garage would be able to source spares AND full tech info just the same as the franchised dealer.;)

I use Connect for my whirlpool spares. How was I meant to know that you can get the part in 7 days from the same people? I’m busy enough to make that phone call as It’s not a priority. Clearly the landlord felt it’s a priority as the tenant’s child has a heart condition that requires a fully functioning oven.
I didn’t realise that it’s a medical requirement to have a working oven. I was not told of this condition, even I did know, I doubt it would change the outcome. Do you think he is bluffing?

I’m no heart expert, but what l do no is clients will come out with any bu8is88t to get it sorted.
I had it the other day, the cooker and house was at a level of dirt it was probably safer not to eat anything out of it but there was a medical reason that they needed the oven working.
I suggested they went to argos and bought a small table top oven would be sufficient for the few days and that since its a medical necesssity having a back up would be a logical solution and it could be used when they clean the oven.

Go lee! Bloody love opportunities to be sarcastic to customers who actually deserve it.

If the part you need from the supplier is listed as ‘out of stock’ or ‘special’ order that should be the signal to try and source elsewhere AND inform your customer anyway. Connect are THE worst supplier and THE least reliable in so many areas after all said and done. :rolls:

I did try source it from Qualtex and Masterpart, both says ‘special’ order. I do inform the customer after I have tried all three. Qualtex are generally good when it comes to ‘special’ order but like I said between the lines on the previous posts, I have no control on when the part arrives nor does the suppliers themselves. I can’t understand how one managed to get from Whirlpool direct. The landlord phoned them direct and says the part will be with him within 7 days. He wanted to know why I hadn’t spoken to Whirlpool direct. I mean was I meant to approach to them in the first place, pay their prices and risk losing the custom over the high prices I would be charging him? I could price match the offer on the part from my suppliers but the fact is that he was not prepared to wait for a period of time.
The biggest gripe was that the customer who I spoke to is the partner of the lady of the house, he relayed to her what I said about the lead time for the part after I had left, he didn’t complain about that prior to me leaving the house. The landlord runs his own business and would not be available until 3pm daily, bearing in mind the job I went to was at 10am. During those 5 hours, the partner told his girlfriend who was having none of this and went on to phone the landlord at 3pm on the dot shouting down onto him and demanded that the oven is to be fixed “yesterday” then went on to say that the child has a heart condition and it is important that the oven is fixed “yesterday”.
The landlord was left bewildered and haven’t got a clue what had hit him, then he phoned me ranting and raving at 4pm. I was on the school run at the time, I came home to some urgent messages demanding that the oven is to be fixed “yesterday”. I explained that it was not possible due to availability of the part otherwise I would have fixed in on the same day. It was a nightmare and the phone kept going off. I am thinking maybe this would be the end of the relationship with this landlord as I do not need his aggravation.

I feel your grief Twixy. It’s all part of the job as you know. Folks always want it fixed yesterday and you can’t blame them for trying, after all we would do the same. We always want our van fixed in that same timescale, if only….!
I do love the bit though about Whirlpool saying the part will be there within 7 days…..bull shoosh…..it proves that even Whirlpool don’t have the part immediately to hand at best.

I’ve just this second had a similar thing. A letting agent call me out to a dishwasher integrated I may add that had failed a pat test. I call out a couple weeks ago, strip the appliance and find out it’s the suppressor, order one up after agreeing a price, go back last week fit the part on which is now safe only to find out that the appliance hasn’t worked for months prior to the test. I find a problem with the board and email them with the bad news, I only charged a very small fee (£20)
Have the LL on the phone this morning ranting and raving why the original quote hadn’t worked, I tell him I wasn’t told about it not not having worked for ages but he’s having none of it and he slammed the phone on me
Don’t need customers like these
