Do something with Helo_75. AAAAARGH they cry…..!
He’s motivated, obviously likes what he does and cares about it and has all the subtelty of a grand piano tossed from a 6th story window.
As things currently stand, he has a high post count, delivers good info when allowed to and is generally useful. I suspect that we are not using or guiding his skills properly.
Don’t know if I’m suggesting we should make him a Mod or not – we definitely need a quiet corner to take him into and either beat him up or talk to him sensibly.
The only real objection I can see is that he is an employed Comet engineer, not an Indie – but he seems to think like most of us. Can’t see him being a plant.
I can see him getting sufficiently annoyed at some point that he’ll blow out and that would be a shame.
Late night thoughts, please discuss, expand, laugh your socks off. I think he’s an assett.

In fact, I agree with it all. Although the analogy I had in mind was all the subtlety of a brick through a plate glass window.
But, like you obviously, I don’t quite know how to get a collar on that particular dog without it biting your hand off in the process. Mod, I don’t think so at this point in time, perhaps in future, but not now as I think Helo has a long way to go to be there as things stand.
I have a feeling however that cooler and, more sober, heads will doubtless prevail.

I think you idea Chris is the correct one. Perhaps, and correct me if Im wrong, is that Rob works for Comet? Also, not sure why but no doubt someone does, did he not try to cancel his account somewhile ago – ?? I might add as a plus whenever I’ve wanted any technical info on refrigeration products he has been more than helpful. He gets the thumbs up from me but need the funnies sorting first.

He certainly doesn`t hold back that`s for sure and he certainly calls a spade a spade.
However with the obvious knowledge and enthusiasm he has, yes I think he would be a great asset. Like the rest of you I think a little diplomacy would go a long way 😉 .

I’m not so sure.
As I have just said to Chris via PM, I think Rob’s ‘in your face, up yours, gung ho ‘ attitude is something that certain posters both public and trade need to hear from time to time. He is nowhere near as bad as he was when he first came on board. I just feel that making him a mod would dilute his effectiveness. We would all like to tell certain posters just exactly what we think of them, as long as helo is doing it when needed I for one wouldn’t like to see him ‘neutered’. 😉
PS. Don, if you get a chance can you answer my old Hotpoint buddies (tphj’s) post in the general trade forum re upright freezer. I know he hasn’t given enough info as to size etc but you are the man in the know. 8)

No, I think you’re right Jim.
I think that inviting Rob to be a mod would remove his ability to tell it like it is and that is what makes him unique and an asset to the site as a whole.

Fair enough. Can I suggest that we offer Rob some support and encouragement? He has a high post count and obviously enjoys answering the questions and biting the odd pillock. I’d hate so see that enthusiasm wane; not least because the rest of is will have more work to do.
