Ice build up in fridge part Frigidaire Fridge fridge/freezer

Hi.
My fridge/freezer is building up two ice spots.

The first is in the top right hand corner of the fridge and causes no real problems that I can see.

The second one is the problem.

The ice builds up right in the channel which the water should drain out of on the right hand side.

the left hand channel is clear and never build up ice.

The drain pipe in completely free. I defrosted the whole unit but this made no difference.

The right hand channel gets an ice build up right above the unit which I think is the temp sensor. This causes the water to be diverted over the ice, then over the sensor unit and under the right hand salad crisper. I then get water in the bottom of the fridge.

If I remove the ice regularly, I get no problems but I have to do this every day. I even smeared some olive oil in the channel to see if the ice build up would stop.

In every other way, the fridge/freezer works perfect. I’ve had it for about 12 years and it’s been a faithful servant and supplied many many cold beers 😀

Is there something I can do to solve this problem?

I have attached a few pic’s below to show the large build up of ice and the problem part in the channel.

The unit model number is FR34

Hi

The insulation has failed on your fridge freezer causing it to freeze in these positions.

You have 2 choices…

1.. knock the ice blocks off every now and then,it will cork quite happily for years to come.

2.. Buy a new freezer.

OK.

Being a maintenance engineer, I’m not gonna give up that easy 8)

The water is running down the back and freezing at that point, causing the rest of the water to run to the bottom.

Therefore, if I siliconed a piece of white perspex above the existing channel leading into the drain hole, 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the water will run down my new drain channel and away.

I’ve put the red line where I’ll put the new channel.

I know it’s a bit of a bodge but it still keeps the food fresh and the beer cold.

I’ll post back the results.

But it wont work !!

You will still get the ice ball forming in the same places…Air contains 70{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} water so unless your goning to dry out te air before it goins into your fridge …LOL then it wont work…benn there tied it got the tee shirt.

You could cut out the insulation at the effected parts from the rear and then wrap the pipework with insulated pipe wrap and then refoam the back..It is messy and a long job but I have had success many moons ago when time wasnt of the essence.

My thinking was the main bulk of the ice is being formed by the condensation running down the back of the fridge and forming at the cold spot where the insulation is damaged.

I’m not worried too much about the ice ball. It’s more that the ice ball forms and the water running down the back cannot reach the drain because the ice ball diverts it away before it get to the drain.

I see your point but the main thing I am trying to stop is the water under the salad crisper, not the ice ball itself.

Do you think this would stop the water in the bottom of the fridge.

I’m not gonna do the undulation work. I’d dump it rather than have all that hassle.
