ice on back of fridge compartment

Hello again I have a fridge/freezer model No “Brandt CFB360WQ” that I had a problem with a while back that I fixed thanks to the help I received here by installing a new PCB but since then have had a problem with ice forming on the back wall of the fridge compartment that builds up and has to be manually removed every three weeks.
Although the fridge/freezer is working very efficiently the defrosting is getting to be a bit of a chore, has any one got a solution to this problem?

This may sound a silly question but, what does the ice look like?

Is it clear or white powdery, like snow?

Is it a ball of ice or is it even over the back wall?

Thanks for quick reply I will do my best to describe the ice, it starts at the top of the fridge compartment and runs about 3/4s of the way down it is not clear but snow like and builds up to about at least 1/4 inch thick after around 3 weeks, hope this helps.

Sounds as if it’s air ingress then, check the door seal would be the first port of call.

From a layman’s point the door seal seems ok no rips or kinks and still springy etc.

Without seeing it, it’s really hard to say then if there’s nothing obvious.

I’d be looking for air ingress, thermostat failure or possibly rear insulation failure as that’s the three most common causes.

The one that interest’s me from those three is thermostat failure how and where do I check for that.

You’re not gonna like this…

It’s electronically controlled, I assume by thermistors, which are not shown as a spare part. That usually means that they are not available to order and, all too often, buried in the actual liner.

Both the fridge and freezer probes are not listed as a spare.

It is very possible that the electronic card is faulty however and not the probes as they, to be fair, don’t fail that often. But, at about £60-70 plus VAT and shipping, it’s an expensive punt to take. The part number, if you want to try it, is 45X8402 and it is usually a UK stocked item so a few days as a rough lead time an email to Dave on spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you an exact price and availability.

Well as I have replaced the PCB card once already I will not be doing so again, think we will persevere with th unit for now and save for a replacement.
