ParticipantHi everyone I hope you can help or advise me.
We have an 11 year old Whirlpool (No Frost) fridge freezer Model no ART 843-2/G The freezer is at the bottom.
Over the last few months the freezer has began to really ice up below the bottom draw, regardless of how many times we clean and remove the ice build up.
It then defrosts and leaks water all over the floor.
We are careful not to leave the doors open, though we are not perfect by any means.
We thought it was the door seal and replaced it with a new genuine seal but nothing has changed, it freezes ok, but the motor does clunk and knock when it switches on. At this moment we are not in a position to replace the Fridge/freezer
Can anyone help with some advice please.
Many thanks, hope you can help.

hello, i’m not familiar with this model, but your fault sounds like the water that is the product of the defrost cycle, is not draining away.
the drain hole will probably be blocked, causing ice to form in the drip tray and then during any subsequent defrost, water comes into the freezer cabinet and forms ice on the floor of the freezer.
it’s not serious and you should be able to pull off the back panel to inspect the blockage yourself.
if you don’t feel up to this, then use the repairs @ feature on this site.
cheers.

Hi
There will be a rubber valve situated just above the compressor drip tray. This gets perrished over the years and the rubber sticks together which in turn blocks the drain up.
pull this off and you will find that it should run quite happily for the next few years after you defrost the whole appliance for 24 hours to clear out any build up of ice.

Hi alf and r600a,
You are both right, have found the blockage, the rubber cap had perished and the drain was full of ice, we are about to clear this now but can’t re-use the cap which sits over the drain, would it be ok without it or will it need replacing, if so where do I get one from.
Thanks guys. -
