ParticipantHi all,
Had some trouble last year with our washer dryer and it turned out to be the PCB, got that fixed…now I’m getting lights 1, 2 & 4 flash which is an F13 error.
On the website it advises to check the hot water inlet, but on the telephone the indesit bod advised that it could be the thermostat – I think it more likely this as I have seen similar errors and fixes on this website.
What I’m after is a bit of advice as to how do I go about investigating whether or not this is indeed the Thermostat or some other simple error that can be sorted – or is this actually more serious (after trying the initial fixes) and I have to order a new PCB – again!!! (should they break even after 9 months???)
A step by step guide of the steps I need to take would be INCREDIBLY beneficial! Also any necessary tools!! I hardly an expert but I like to give things like this a go 😆
Also, I got a quote from Indesit on a new Thermostat and a new PCB board – £120.97 inc VAT and delivery tomorrow (19th August), or £111.98 standard delivery – as soon as I said I’d call her back later she immediately gave me a discount!!! £105 next day or £96 standard. What do you think of these prices?
Many thanks
David

Have you done a “search” on this model no.? you will find a plethora of info 😉 to be honest the modules are a pile of Indeshyte unrelaibility
Where are you getting your spares from?

Are you sure the board quoted is ready to fit? They now have a system called “Smart Card” where you buy a generic board which has to be programmed using a special device and card. If you do need a board you are better getting an exchange one from EMW.

As far as I’m aware the board is ready to fit (I did edit the post, the board is from indesit) I have searched on the error code to try and pinpoint how to fix it – but maybe searching by model is a better idea.
If only we had more space in the kitchen for separate items – we live in a flat so don’t even own a washing line!!
And what is EMW????

How old is the machine, is it still not under the five year parts warranty?
As for EMW, Google is your friend. 😉
Lights 1,2& 4 suggest a dryer side NTC failure ( the machine doesn’t have any thermostats) or a dryer fan motor fault, could also be loose or broken wiring connections.

I’ll investigate the parts warranty.
Machine is no more than 2 1/2 years old…last time I contacted Hotpoint they never mentioned a parts warranty, and again there was no mention of it this time either.
Is this something that comes as standard or that you “purchase” when you buy the machine? It was my G/friend who bought it prob from curry’s/comet etc hence my grey area of knowledge…..

Every Hotpoint appliance has been covered by a five year parts warranty for almost 30 years now.
You do have to pay the modest :rolls: £99.85 labour charge but that is still much less than you are contemplating spending on spares. 😉

Ahh – yes, that’s what we had done last time – he came out and fixed it for Circa £100.
Thanks for your input – I’ve seen an image of what this part looks like – if I take the lid off tonight I guess this will be pretty visible will it??? Or is it tucked away in some dark corner of the machine – accessible to only those £100 enigneers!!??!!

The NTC is right on top of the heater box with two very thin wires going to it. If you are very lucky it will be a broken wire or a faulty NTV which is only around £6 or £7. Well worth trying before you go down the PCB route. 😉

Evening update!
After extensive testing…it seems that the dryer cycle is working ok as we could feel the hot air with the lid off and actually it is still well over halfway through it’s 30min cycle as I type this.
However, when the machine goes to pump out on either a quick wash, or a fast spin cycle, we did notice that the dryer fan started to whirr up on both cycles. (I’m not sure if this is normal or not so please confirm either way!!) The same error lights came on as the fan was present and the machine tried to pump again.
Just for your info I removed the Dryer NTC, cleaned it and it’s housing as it was a little grubby, re-seated the connecting wires, when replacing I ensured that the cables were not touching the dryer “vacuum” (can’t think of a better word!!). I also then re-seated the wires that plugged into the PCB board.
So my next question is this – does it look like a PCB error? The fact that it is telling the dryer fan to come on when it shouldn’t be?? If this is how it is meant to work, then how am I receiving an F13 Error message when the dryer is fine??
And as an aside note, when I phoned Indesit earlier they said that the singular repair work was covered by a 90 day warranty, how do all of you feel about this warranty period? Is it enforceable?? Surely the “part” not the “work” needs to have a warranty itself?? I wonder how this would sit with the Sale of Goods Act 1979 that states
If you have bought goods you have a right to expect that they should be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality
surely if the board is broken already after 9 months then it is clearly NOT fit for purpose and NOT of satisfactory quality???
Appreciate your industry experience on this kind of problem!!
P.S. when the Drying cycle went to do it’s final pump – the error appeared!!! 👿

The Indesit electronics on these machines are about the most unreliable on the market so anything is possible.
Have you checked the connections between the NTC and the module.
The error codes are only a guide and often give spurious messages.
As for the 90 day warranty you do not know for certain if the PCB has failed again or not.
We can only point you in the right direction but due to the very flaky nature of these machines anythingh else is just guesswork without actually seeing the machine in the flesh.

Thanks for your help so far, think I’ll have to go back to Indesit and state what I’ve tested.
It’s not looking any better than getting that £100 engineer out!!!
My next plan is to take out the warranty, that will tie us over until we buy a house at which point I will get separate machines!!
Great website with a lot of resource – keep up the good work
