ParticipantJust in case anyone is looking for a high quality reliable range cooker – take a look at a Mercury before you make a decision.
We recently spent a lot of time researching the market and came to the conclusion that the Mercury is the best there is. In fact I’d liken it to the ICE washing machines in that the engineering is superb, it isn’t over-complicated with silly gizmos, it’s built like a tank, easy to repair, and it will last longer than you will. It’s also half the price of an Aga and it’s made in BRITAIN. Hoorah! It also looks superb – I guess that’s why it has won design awards.
I especially like the clever design. The large “event” oven is huge. The smaller oven is, unlike other so-called range cookers, actually wide enough to fit plates into (!!!) and the grill is superb – it’s on super-smooth stainless rollers. The top is well thought out and elegant and the five gas hobs are a delight to cook with. If you need to be convinced about the quality just remove one of the dials – it’s turned on a lathe from a sigle piece of aluminium. Fantastic.
I don’t own shares in the company – I just think that good design needs to be shouted about and supported. These days there isn’t enough of it.

Hi CC,
That’s partly why I unreservedly recommend the Mercury machines and, additionally like ISE, the spares when you do need them eventually aren’t stupid prices like most are.
Put it this way, when I finally get my kitchen sorted it’s all too likely that it will be a Mercury cooker that’s joining the ISE10 washer, dryer and Liebherr refrigeration. That way I won’t be swapping anything out for a long, long time and will enjoy the performance of some of the best appliances available for well over 15 years at the very least without fault most likely.

Hi K,
Good Lord – I did something right by complete accident! I also have a Liebherr fridge! Mine is an integrated one with the BioFresh drawers (which are well worth having as they keep salad and veg fresh twice as long as normal) Sounds as if we’ll soon have matching kitchens. 😀
I hope you enjoy your Mercury as much as I do mine – except I had to demolish part of the kitchen wall to get in it from the rather narrow hall. I also decided to add steel reinforcement to the timber joists below it. Oh, and a police helicopter hovered overhead taking videos of me and the two delivery guys struggling to get it unstuck from the garden steps. I think they weren’t sure if we were going in or out with our suspicious looking crate. They soon buggered off when we waved them down for a winch… Life is never dull when you own quality kitchen appliances. 8)

ParticipantMercury’s are great as are Falcons and both British and both high quality, Britanias are pretty good cookers too but stupid parts prices put me off recommending them.
It may be half the price of an AGA but theres alot to an AGA’s price, it needs to be built in your kitchen for a start its not delivered assembled, its heavy cast iron all over so costs are high for production, you will also never need to replace an AGA as all parts are available for repairs or replacement, they still have the casts for the original AGA’s from the 30’s even, the build quality is second to none, lastly though nothing cooks like an AGA oven, and thats why people go nuts over them still.

Do any of you know who supplies spare parts for the Mercury 1090 range cooker (ca 2006 purchase year) before they were bought by Rangemaster.
I can’t find anyone and desperately need an igniter and microswitch!
These have been redesigned.

Hi TKM62
Spares are like hen’s teeth but dependent on what you need I may have it in stock.
