ModeratorJust been to fit a door seal on a washer and was asked to look at this waste disposal unit. Don’t normally get involved with anything like this but had a bit of time to spare. I found that the red reset button underneath the unit had tripped, pressed it and the motor fired into life. However the switch mechanism is faulty, it will not switch off, other than by the mains socket. Due to the way this thing is installed, touching the side of the cupboard I cannot see the full model number, only that it ends in a 5. however looking here it is exactly like the one at the bottom of the page a model 78 with the long stainless steel neck and the switch situated under the small square box top right. Anyone have any more info on these regarding spares etc?

These are very easy to remove, i think it just twists quarter of a turn & drops down. The switch mechanism should work on an air operated push button mounted on the top of sink. Its pretty basic really check that pipe is joined to push button & also at switch. They are prone to blockages by rubber bands , bones , plastic wrappers etc, very dangerous to work on so make sure appliance is isolated before removing any blockages. Dirty & smelly jobs but someone has to do it..

The switch on this is as I described, under that small square metal cover, on the 78 model. It seems to be operated by the Plug/handle device being turned left or right to lock but it appears to be jammed so it operates with the plug removed. No switches or pipes coming from sink.

Iadom, The microswitch is operated by a small rod which is pushed by the bung as it is turned to the lock position it sounds like it has seized. From what i remember if you remove the switch you can get to the rod and fre it up with WD40

Will give that a go , couldn’t see exactly how the switch could be removed from the outside without forcing it.

The switch unscrews from the disposer body, wd40 will free it off if it’s only slightly sticking utherwise new switch required.

Thanks sparkey, will give that a go. She has not used it for almost 12 months so a few more days without it should not be a problem.
