    Hi all,

2 appliances gone down in 24 hours!!

My Condenser dryer is making a very loud fast knocking sound that seems to be coming from the area where the motor & fan are. It starts as soon as you switch it on. when you press the on button & open the flap cover at the bottom front that houses the condenser unit, you can see the motor at the back on the right. The noise seems to be coming from there. Its almost like the fan blades are hitting on something. The noise is that fast!

Before I open it up I thought I would see if anyone knows what it could be?

this loud hammering noise literally came out of the blue. It wasn’t a noise that got louder. The machine hasn’t been moved in any way to cause something to have moved etc.

Can anyone help at all please?

    Thanks,

    Jase.

there is an idler pulley attached to the motor and they have a habit of failing. This is the first thing to check

    Hi Dave,

Before taking the machine apart, Ive looked up on line & see that the tensioner if failed would make a squealing noise. The noise im getting is very similar to: Remember in the old days a car fan would sometimes catch the radiator & make a fast loud knocking nice. This is what I’m getting.

I just wonder if you think of anything that can make that type of noise, excepting the motor fan blades hitting on something?

    Much appreciated!

The air intake fan, the circulating fan or the drum shaft could be in trouble. As Dave said the best place to start is by checking the tension pulley which squeaks or thumps depending on the type of failure.

Really appreciate your replies and help!

    Have a good day 🙂
