Indesit cooker broken ! Help !

PLease can anyone help ? ❓

No doubt, you are probably not surprised (after what i have read about indesit on the web) to hear my Indesit cooker has broken down ! 😯

We bought it from Comet and had it installed in December 2003. This only makes it 2 and 1/2 years old. 😯

Its model is an FM20 K, electric fan oven and it appears to have lost its heating element .

I have contacted Indesit both on the phone and via email, gettting no response apart from “you haven’t got an extended warranty so it will cost to send you an engineer and then to repair it”

I don’t know about you but i would have hoped a cooker would have lasted at least 5 years !!

Does anyone know how much further i should take this ? Is it worth trying to take on Merloni ? (again from what i read on the web i’m not hopeful) and do i have consumer rights seeing as its only lasted 2 and 1/2 years !!!

Comet have offered an engineer service too but i feel it is indesit who we have our argument with.

Any help/advice is gratefully received ! 🙂

further info i’ve checked after reading advice on another indesit cooker problem on this forum…
I have been and checked and the thermostsat does click when turned when the oven is cold.

Probably some sort of element failure – they are quite cheap and easily available, so use your local independent repairer to sort it for you. It will be considerably less than Indesit or Comet service.

Any help/advice is gratefully received ! 🙂 your argument will always be with your retailer and not the manufacturer esp. with comet who do their own warranty on free standing products.

Could you maybe give me an idea of what element may have gone wrong ?

The symptoms are :

1. Fan and light appear to both be working

2. The temp knob clicks when turned to on position.

3. Our RCD is being tripped when we turn the oven on and then the temperature on

4. The indicator light by the temp knob appears to fade/dim when we turn the oven knob to various options, including the fan although we can see the fan is working.

The fan element has failed I would think and as Penguin suggests, a straightforward and easy repair 😀

2.5 years at those sorts of temperatures isn’t bad going 😉
