    Greetings All,

My mother owns an Indesit D4200 dish washer. This has developed a fault with the programme controller/timer. She had noted this morning that the controller had not advanced and seemed to have stopped even though the machine itself was still running. I advanced the controller by “one notch” it resumed it gentle “hum.” This lasted for about half-hour before it got “stuck” again on the rinse cycle. A further nudge caused it to complete its cycle.

Clearly there is a fault with the programme controller. So my question are:

    (a) what is the cause of the problem?
    (b) how can it be fixed?

    Regards,

    cfam.

No one can tell you without testing but at a guess I would say Heater or Thermostat

    Call an Engineer

    Hello Allsorts,

Thank you for your suggestions. I don’t think the heater element is at fault since when I opened the dishwasher steam billowed out and the interior was hot. So this observation would lead to your second suggestion of the thermostat. If the thermostat is at fault how would this cause the controller to stall: water is not reaching the right temperature? What tests would an engineer perform?

Quite happy to perform some basic tests and replace parts that are largely “plug and play.” Rather repair if I can than buy a new machine both for reasons of cost and of course the environment.
