KeymasterHad a day off work today so thought filling the dishwasher this morning would keep the lady off my back.
Put it on for a rinse to get the grime off – about 3 mins into the cycle water started appearing from the front of the dishwasher.
I moved the cylce onto pump to get water out – emptied it and realised maybe there was too much grime in the filter – cleaned it then put on a rinse cycle – again it started to flood.
Its like the anti-overfill isnt working or something (If there is such a thing), its evident the water is coming from the door.
Do i need a new door/rubbers, new anti-overspill, or a new dishwasher – its only just over a year old!
Can you help me outa this corner? Missus will be nagging more than usual otherwise.
Thanks in advance

KeymasterRe: Indesit D63 Dishwasher Overfill
Ive been searching the internet for any clues for the above, i have come to the conclusion it must either be faulty overflow (Valve or switch?). I took the side panel off and it was only wet around the door area.
Apparently the doors arent meant to be water tight anyway – just splashproof. My missus put some washing up liquid in there a few months back and it spewed out of the sides of the doors – and its worked without leaking since then – until now of course.
The problem i have is theres no evidence of a overflow switch/valve – there are two objects on the bottom of the dishwasher, the element and this little round ‘gun post shape’ plastic object, i assume this takes in water when its full and actions soemthing else.
It would be great if someone could confirm this – and maybe suggest i do something to test it.
Thanks if you can help.

KeymasterRe: Indesit D63 Dishwasher Overfill
Me again – how does a dishwasher usually (Or specific to the Indesit), know its water intake requirements?
Does it fill a pre measured amount or does it guage on demand?
I have the D63 in prieces, ive checked all the pipes, non are blocked. The overfill spews into a bottom tray (which is the bottom plate of the dishwasher), which holds the float which in turn activates a switch by raising (Due to water). Does this switch activate the pump out to keep the water level or would it just stop the dishwasher as a cut out mechanism? This would be a really usefull answer to have.
Well, as you can see I asm trying….any help appreciated.

BTW the overfill is the ‘gun post shaped’ object as described earlier.

Note: If it isnt clear i have been having this conversation by myself….just waiting for someone ‘in the know’ to come along and suggest what could be problem.

Hi Simon.
I’m not exactly familiar with this particular model (1000’s of others but not one of these) the water level is checked by a pressure sensitive switch which switches the water inlet valve off and advances the programme to the next stage.
I would suggest that the problem is almost certainly due to the washing up liquid episode you mentioned. This can have disastrous effects on dishwashers causing no end of blockages, air locks etc.
Check for blockages etc in hoses and “gunged up” liquid etc.
Please ensure the dishwasher is completely disconnected 1st by pulling the plug.
Any further problems it would seem you will need an engineer to sort out for you.
Dave.

Thanks Dave,
Ive checked the pipes they look good as new and although may have had an airlock, certainly didnt when i blew through them (After taking them off of course).
The one remaining qutestion is the float switch – whether this is used to activate the pump out or just stop the dishwasher/pump in.
Thanks again

Hi.
The float on the tray is there as a anti flood device and operates when a leak or such malfunction causes the float to rise and in turn operates a switch which then operates the outlet pump hopefully preventing a flood.
As Dave said earlier the insertion of washing up liquid is almost certainly the reason for your problem.
Chris.

KeymasterRe: Indesit D63 Dishwasher Overfill
Well guys – thanks for your input.
The good news is it doesnt leak anylonger. Theres no scientific answer to this one – I have noticed is it doesnt fill as high as when it was leaking.
By taking almost the whole thing apart and ensuring all the pipes were not blocked probably remedied the thing.
(Speculation) Seems as if a catalogue of errors occured, starting with maybe slightly blocked filters (me overstacking the thing with unscrapped plates – lol), and the anti-overfill not working – maybe this was an airlock caused by the washing up liquid.
My advice to anyone who has a similar problem would be to first check the filter isnt blocked, secondly checking the ‘gun tower shaped’ plastic bit also located on the floor of the dishwasher (its actually the inlet for the anti-overfill mechanism), making sure neither are blocked – you’ll have to take most panels off to do this though, so mind where you put the screws! 🙂
Time for feet up 🙂
