Re: Indesit D63 keeps tripping out house fuse box

A good place to start is HERE

Years ago Indesit products were known throughout the trade as very basic, uncomplicated, cheap machines that lasted a reasonable period of time, were cheap to repair although lacking many of the functions of more upmarket products.

Cheap & cheerful was an apt description of them.

As a comparison, I have several customers with Bosch & Hotpoint ( made by Bosch ) dishwashers that are over 25 years old, still working fine which makes your 9 & 7 year Indesit machines look poor value when you consider that you will have paid more for them combined than the cost of the Bosch/Hotpoint machine.

Now, across the whole of the Indesit range they have very unreliable electronics, sub standard materials but rather expensive parts. If your machine is seven years old it may still be worth getting it looked at. If it was under five then it would already be time to throw it away.

Cheap & nasty sums up the current Merloni products.

    Jim.

    Thanks Jim

Right I’ve been away and read the articles which are very interesting! The article with recomendations is now a bit out of date with broken links but I get the idea of the kind of machines that are recommended.

I found a “Bosch Classixx SGS45C02” at the co-op for a touch over £250. Would I be right in assuming that this will be much much better option than an Indesit.

    http://www.coopelectricalshop.co.uk/pro … SGS45C02-W

Obviously I realise that I need to spend > £400 to get a top quality machine but with my budget that just isn’t going to happen!

    25 year old dishwashers !!!

I first encountered a dishwasher at a villa in Spain perhaps 28 years back and vowed never to wash/dry pots again. So a 25 year old specimen is a real treat.

My experience of white goods performance is more like 2-7 years.

There’s a bunch of guys on here offering good solid advice, but sometimes laced with invective, unhelpful to the general public.

You might recall I was somewhat “told-off” for suggesting a fix to a Samsung fridge-freezer air-circulation fan problem could entail a 12v dc ex-computer fan.

I can say, that fix still holds, the fridge-freezer is still working, same fan, no electric shocks (sorry chaps !).

Sometimes, you just need a lateral view of a problem.

Seriously, if a crap fridge-freezer unit fails the answer is not always best sought in spending a shed-full of money. The answer lies in protecting yourself against a repeat of a similar problem and that can ONLY be achieved by insurance/warranty agreements.

Re: Indesit D63 keeps tripping out house fuse box

I’ve just read through the thread and felt a further post was warranted:

It is MY belief that manufacturers of ALL domestic appliances tend to build-in a “decrepit factor” these days.

Nothing lasts for too long, our whole society is based upon replace rather than repair.

For that reason, and the fact that I cannot control the build quality of ANYTHING I’m inclined to accept that machines will break down, will need repair and such is likely to be more expensive given a Brit will be employed to repair compared to an overseas employee buiding the unit in the first place.

Therefore, brand name is no guarantee of longevity/quality – only a good insurance/repair policy.

Re: Indesit D63 keeps tripping out house fuse box

    Hi Mike,

We crossed swords before over your fridge repair, I’m happy for you that it is holding up. I have to say that this last post of yours is a well considered take upon the current state of the appliance market, is so far as good warranty is a worthwhile consideration, especially at the budget end of the market.

The “decrepit factor” is a fact, sort of. I seriously believe that a lot of the budget stuff is designed to last 366 days (just in case there’s a leap year) and then all responsibility can be denied. The mass market budget manufacturers have but one aim – to run their factories 24 hours a day, every day, thus ensuring maximum efficiency on a cost per unit basis; keeping profitability high. Quality is not an issue, as it’s not considered in the first place. The Indesit Company, for instance, has 8 UK brand names that you would recognise. It has occured on this forum more than once that a poster, infuriated with his irrepairable Indesit has stated that he’s off to buy an Ariston……. Wrong!

The plus point with these particular products is that there is still a dedicated manufacturers’ service network, so getting a poor quality unreliable product repaired can be done reasonably quickly, providing you’re prepared to take a day off work and accept that it may take two visits to deal with.

Where it goes horribly wrong is with a product like your dishwasher, HERE. This machine costs approximately £50, on the docks. Pay for your own container, shipping and duty, so about £63 per unit landed in the UK. Bit of distribution to add on, then out to the customer. Bear in mind that the Sheds charge delivery, connection and disposal on top. Profit, profit, profit… The product is still rubbish, you’re going to finish up on christian name terms with your local company engineer (Be nice to him – he will try for you. Cup of tea always appreciated. And – it’s not his fault. He can only work with what he’s given.) Spares supply is appalling. If they haven’t got the part, you can wait up to 6 weeks for a slow boat from China.

The last figures that admin managed to get their hands on showed that 84{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of these (Chinese) machines failed in the first year.

All things considered, I reckon theat you’ll actually being using your dishwasher for about 3.5 years, out of the 5, assuming that Comet don’t write it off and give you a nice voucher towards your next (replacement) product.

You commented on “invective”. UKWhitegoods is a phenomonally popular site, with a membership of over 25,000. Some 2,000 of them are members of the repair trade, yet, it’s the same 20 odd of us who have to deal with the questions which arise in the Public Forums. We try to be fair, we try to balanced, we try to tell the truth. By the time you’ve typed “Don’t buy this bit of Chinese carp” for the 250th time, you start to lose patience, as well as the will to live……… We’re human (or avian 😀 ) too and get immensely frustrated by peoples’ complete inability to use the Search facility or read the Advice and Help section in the task bar. It’s an absolute goldmine in its own right.

Anyway, consider the old adage “You get what you pay for”. It’s never been more true. Extended warranties only plaster over the cracks. Even the budget Bosch products are pretty shoddy these days and I’ve been a fan for many years. Two year warranty was always a good selling point – now, they need it.

I hope you will keep us informed as to how your new purchase works out. I have no real desire to be negative about it and you seem willing enough to discuss the issues – I hope you’ll be big enough to share with us. It might be an interesting long term case study.

    Regards,
    Penguin45.

I will keep you informed on the success or otherwise of the Proline dishwasher. And thanks for a very articulate and most helpful response.

I know exactly what you mean about slow provision of spares from China. Had a problem 3-4 years back with a 3 piece reclining leather sofa. Needed a replacement leather cover on one of the reclining footrests due to damage and waited 15+ weeks with one excuse after another. Finally, I got a price from DHL for air transport of the piece of leather and put this to the company – they paid it and problem was fixed a week later.

Re: Indesit D63 keeps tripping out house fuse box

I was assured by the house holder that I was the first repairer to attend this Diplomat-badged Haier this morning. Can’t say I was overly impressed by the extra securings fitted to the drain pump…..

You can see how the cable ties were fed through the pump windings.

If this is product development in China, I don’t hold out much hope for the future.

    and they call us cowboys….

break the tabs off – change the pump

of course, the trick is to know how to take it off in the first place
