Indesit D63 leak

We have a D63 that is about 5 years old. It has started to leak and the leak appears to come from the front of the water tray. When he soap tablet starts to dissolve, some of the resuting foam appears in the trough behind the door seal, and eventually overflows from here. I have stripped the door seal out, cleaned and replaced it (recrimping it back in place), but the problem still exists. I thought at first it may be due to a change of tablets, but now have reverted to the old ones and the problem is still there. What are the other likely causes and what checks can be made to isolate the culprit?

3 in 1, 4 in 1 or even 5 in 1 tablets are a very common cause of over soaping in dishwashers, particularly these machines. Using separate detergent, rinse aid and salt if your water is hard enough to need it or using Fairy Active bursts may help.

Thanks Jim for your instant response. Sounds like that could be the problem. I’ll get some powder in the next few days and check it out – and post the results here.

You might let it do a couple of cycles with no detergent at all in order to flush it out fully.

We have run the machine for a few days now using powder – and restricting the amount used. First wash ahowed no problem, but on the second wash we again had foam overflowing from the front trough (probably not the correct name, but that is what it looks like). On each subsequent wash, foam does appear in the trough though it has not yet overflowed again. Still, we are very nervous about this state of affairs in that if we put just a little too much soap in, it may again overflow.
I cannot think of anything that has changed in the machine to cause this uncertainty. Perhaps someone can come up with an answer, or is it just down to the soap?
One thought, the lower ends of the upper door seal (the one that runs round 3 sides of the machine) are loose over about the last inch. Looking at varous machine in the local Comet, many seem to show the same effect, though a couple appear to have the seal attached right to the bottom. Would there be any sense in glueing the ends of this seal to the casing?

Is it the seal thats loose or the seal holder.
The seal holder had a habit of becoming detached from their spot welds onto the inner tank and had to be re-attached via drilling holes through them and the tank and secured by self tapper screws IIRC oh and some silicone 😉 Quality item 😆

No, the seal has not come detached from its crimps, instead the bottom inch (on each side) hangs below the crimp lip. Basically it is free to flap around when it perhaps should be stiffer over that last inch. I do not plan to drill and use self tappers because, as I say, the main crimping round the 3 sides of the tank for this seal seem to be in good condition. I really do think it is a combination problem of the loose ends of the seal and the frothiness of the soap. I have not yet had an opportunity to glue it in place, but that will be the next step.

I would also say that the cleaning properties of this machnbe have always been on the edge – sometimes it leaves a number of dirty dishes that I resort to hand washing. We are getting past patience with this machine and are starting research for a good or excellent replacement. Any thoughts on other machines to avoid at all costs?
