ParticipantMy Indesit D63 has worked without any problems for about 5 or 6 years (no really!). We have just come back from a week away and run the machine and I realised that there is no sound of any actual washing going on. The water comes in and gets pumped out at the right places but there’s no sound of any water coming out of the arms. I regularly clean the filters out and we’ve never had this problem before – basically I doubt that the arms are clogged. The timer knob seems to go through the program but I’m sure it may have stopped roughly half way through – I advanced it a notch to make sure it hadn’t stopped for good and it did get to the end OK (minus the actual washing of course).
I’m not an appliance engineer but I reckon I’m reasonably competent so does this sound like the recirculation pump has failed and do people think this is a feasible DIY replacement job for me to tackle? If it is something I could do, presumably I’ll have to put the machine on it’s side and approach the underside? Which side should it go on and is there anything I should know about before starting eg huge amounts of hidden water likely to come out, special tools etc?September 8, 2008 at 4:49 pm #262020iadom

This is the only special tool you will need. 😉

Joking aside a new circ pump will cost around £85 ex vat. You could have a look at the motor capacitor if you have suitable test equipment, if you are very lucky it might just be that.
Tip it onto its left side looking from the front or onto its back. Unplug and place a few towels on the floor first.
The hose clips are rather awkward to remove.

Thanks for that info. I don’t have any electrical test equipment or skills in that area so it looks like the pump will have to be replaced. Any particular pliers helpful with the hose clips or should I get some replacements in before starting in case I ruin them? What type should I get if I need new ones?

I would seriously consider getting the capacitor checked out first. It only costs around £5.00 for a capacitor, why pay almost £100 for a motor you may not need on a dishwasher that is past its sell by date. 😕
Best thing to do with the clips is to replace them, they are a very thin clip so normal jubilee clips will not work, its rumoured that Vauxhall motor spares dealers sometimes have clips of the correct size. getting them off is awkward, trying to get the old ones back on is when the problems start.
If you do gain access to the motor then the first thing to do before you take off any hoses etc is to see if the motor has seized by trying to turn the vanes of the internal motor fan with the end of a screwdriver.
