ParticipantThis Indesit DG 6100W dishwasher has a fault. The controller knob doesn’t turn any more, although the pump etc. still runs. I assume the controller motor has failed. Do you agree this is the fault, and where can I get a replacement? Thanks.

I have answered your spares query. 😉
If the timer will not advance when set to the prewash cycle then that does point to a failure of the control unit.
If you set it to any programme, does it start to drain then stick there until you stop it?
Jim.

Hello, sorry about the delay in coming back. You are correct that if you set it to any programme, it goes into drain mode and stays there. I have found that rocking the machine up slightly, and down with a jolt, seems to trigger the machine filling, and then it runs normally. I am starting to wonder if it isn’t the controller, could it be a water level sensor or the water inlet valve? Thanks.

Difficult to see on the parts diagram, it may have a float switch in the base but I cannot see one. That would cause the machine to enter a drain cycle and stick there if the base was flooded.
If there is no leak into the base then if it does have a float switch it may be sticking.

There doesn’t seem to be any flooding. The machine has a small round plastic protrusion sticking up inside on the bottom, with holes in it, which looks like some kind of sensor.

That sounds like the overflow aperture. Have you tilted the machine right over to see if there is any water in the base?

No, I will try this and report back.

Yes, I can confirm that the base was flooded, although no water had come through on the floor.

The water won’t come through onto the floor. Your machine must have an anti flood switch, a float lifts and trips a microswitch to cut the machine off except for the drain pump.
You should allow it to dry out then try it again. If the fault manifests itself quite soon then you may have an internal leak. If it works fine then it may have oversoaped. some engineers actually block of the small vent in the tub with silicone to prevent this.
We advise using separate detergent, rinse aid and if your water hardness dictates salt. Combination tablets are known to cause oversoaping, something this machine is prone to suffering from.

I have emptied the water out now, and it works OK. I have some more information I didn’t originally know. Apparently it flooded the floor about a week before it went wrong. The floor was mopped up and the machine tried again the next day. It worked, and continued to work for a week, and no more was thought about it until it stopped part-way through a programme. That was when I got involved. Was this original flooding likely to be “over soaping”? Or something else? Thanks!

Over soaping is very common on these, just keep an eye on it for the next few washes, don’t go out and leave it running. 😉

Here is an update on this long running problem! Since the previous posts the machine has been running in this pattern.
1) Runs OK for a couple of times then stops in mid-cycle.
2) Emptying water out by tipping on it’s side, resets this and it will run again for a couple of times before repeating (above).
3) Even this no longer works now. Sticks in initial pump-out cycle.
4) Controller (timer) is OK (checked by replacement).
5) Machine doesn’t fill with soap (when working). No evidence of “oversoaping”.
Help! This machine is about to be replaced by a new one, unless anyone has any further ideas. Help save it from the knacker’s yard! Thanks again in advance.

It sounds as though there is a leak somewhere. Can’t say I would try a control unit to sort out water in the base but there you go. 😉

Didn’t originally know about the water in the base until some time afterwards, just that it had stopped the program in mid cycle. Found the water later. If it’s a leak then I think it’s a new machine. Thanks!
