My Indesit DI62 has just developed a startup fault. When a program is selected, the pump drains the residual water and the machine starts to fill, but when the level rises to just above the drain outlet (well below the heating element) the flow stops and a low hum can be heard. If the machine is left switched on for a period, LED’s 1 & 2 start to flash.

If the machine is reset, it will repeat the same cycle again.

I have checked inside the base inspection covers and it is bone dry, but the tank for adding salt remains full of water.

I suspect that there is a blockage somewhere, but I should like some advice before stripping it all down. Clearly, the drain pump and the water inlet valve are working, so the fault must lie somewhere else.

It sounds like the circulation pump isn’t cutting in. The hum would suggest that power is getting to the motor, but it’s not starting. It’s possible that the pump is jammed or seized but it’s more likely that the start capacitor is not “kicking” the motor off.

    Suitable capacitor is HERE.

Power off before removing any panel.
