ParticipantHi
I have a problem with my indisit di620 dishwasher. When I run a rinse-cycle the machine loads water, sits in silence (no pumping or spraying) for about ten minutes and then drains the water again. When I run a normal wash cycle it loads the water, fails to do any spraying etc and then tries to heat the water until the element is glowing cherry red and making a burning smell (at which point I turn it off). Any sugestions as to the source of the problem would be greatly appreciaited.
Many Thanks
John

Possibly a main circulation pump/motor failure. Could be capcitor but chances are the motor may have siezed.

Hi
Thanks for that, I had a look underneath and the recirculation pump capacitor is a charred and melted mess, can you confirm what sort of capacitor it was (4uF ??) before its spectacular demise. The dishwasher is an indesit di620 s/n 60426 2979.
Thanks a lot

Capacitor is not listed separately but I am pretty sure it is a 4uf one.
Well worth a punt.

Hi I have the same dishwasher model and although it runs correctly and washes fine, I opened the door during the cycle to see the element burning red and smelling a bit smoky. Is this the same problem and do I need a new capacitor??? Many thanks. Anneka.

Put it on the Rinse cycle. After the fill sequence, apply no. 1 ear to the casing and listen. If you can hear a faint humming noise, there is power getting to the motor, but it isn’t running. It may be jammed, seized or the capacitor may have failed.

Thank you for your speedy reply – I ran the rinse cycle and yes could hear the motor running. However, the elements didn’t get red and hot this time. What do you suggest we do? Many thanks.

Slightly puzzled now, Anneka. If the motor is running, there should be water spraying around inside the machine
There is no heat on the rinse programme, that was just to protect the element. Did you pop the door and see if there was lots of water spraying about inside? Careful – get too close and you’ll get wet 😀 .

ParticipantThanks for your reply. Yes the water is spraying fine. With rinse and normal programs. Just the element was spitting the water when I opened the normal cycle and it was bright hot red which worried me. Any more ideas?

During the heat sequence, the falling water from the spray arms is supposed to cool the element whilst heating the water. It should never be seen glowing red hot.
I can only think that the machine is underfilling (The opposite of the usual problem with these :rolls: ), which is an awkward technical issue to try and resolve – pro help would be your best option.
I have seen this happen with very large objects in the bottom basket – baking trays for instance.
