Indesit DI620 Door wont stay shut

Hi All

My indesit DI620, inherited with our new house, has had a problem with the door staying closed since I moved in.

Recently the door wont stay closed at all unless I jam the door against the side of the unit.
As its an integrated system the door could jam against the other unit and, with the di620’s catch holding, would hold for a while.

Today the door wont stay closed at all.
Ive taken the wooden door off as i thought this would take some weight away and let the door hold shut.

However, this didnt work.
So, now I have to put a chair against the door in order for the dishwasher to run.

Any ideas??

The door latch, like everything else on these machines is of very poor quality and often prone to breaking.

If you have taken the decor panel off and it still won’t stay shut it suggests the latch is faulty.

If you do intend to change this yourself be sure to isolate from the mains and take great care when removing door panel, the inner door edges are razor sharp.

When I remove the metal catch and push it into the latch (as per your post) the latch holds well.
Could it be that it is simply old (ish) and worn, and once the weight of the door is added it just doesnt hold?
The latch holds to a degree, but falls back just far enough for the washer to believe that the door is open.

It could be weakening, however it is possible to adjust the latch position on some machines to allow it to lock correctly.
