ParticipantHi, my 17 month old dishwasher has suddenly stopped both washing and draining. It fills, although after a much longer delay than before; then not much – it seem to try and start to pump water around than stops, the pump seems to be making little “stuttery” sort of noises, even when controller is on reset.
I have cleaned all accessible pipes and the obvious stuff (obvious to me anyway). The controller seems to start programs (fill), and even reset when turned to this position.
ANy thoughts, it occurs to me that both pumps would not go together?

ParticipantUndertray may well be flooded to operate both pumps together. Draining undertray will reset the float switch, but you will still have to find the leak. If you are not confident in your abilities, please seek professional help.
Check “Repairs@” or “Directories” for a repairer in your area.
If you’re going to have a go yourself, pull the plug first. :plug:

Thanks for the feed back, the undertray was flooded, is not now; I think that the main filter got blocked on its last wash which may have caused a leak. Is there likely to be anything else that could be reset?

The anti-flood should reset itself normally.
Is the dishwasher still not operating after you’ve emptied the base ?

Unfortunately no the main wash pump seems to work for a second or to just sort of makes stuttery noises, the shaft rotates freely, the water fills but does not drain either. Is it possible that both pumps are blocked, getting to the impellor chambers is not the easiest job, unless I turn the whole thing on its side. I am a little reluctant to commit to an enginner if it is terminal or “beyond economc repair”

It could be that the main circulation motor has been damaged by the water in the base, or perhaps it was this that caused the leak in the first place.
I’d either call an engineer Archy or call it a day and replace it.
My thoughts are the latter to be honest with you as the main motor/pump will cost over £100 to replace if that is the problem, which it sounds like to me 🙁
For a proper diagnosis though, you will need that engineer out as I’m only making an educated assumption.

Do you get any “flashing lights” on the control panel? try starting a wash cycle and waiting 5 mins to see what happens. if you get any lights flashing let us know.

Thanks guys,
I have tried just leaving the machine, for some time on a wash cycle, it fills up, then just sits there doing nothing -appart from the strange noise from the main pump / motor. The control panel lights seem to operate as they should, indicating the correct programme has started for the option selected.
I am tempted to think that my machine’s days are numbered – not least because lack of working machine is causing increasing grief to domestic goddess

It’s got to be a faulty circulation motor in my opinion.
£86.25 inc VAT and postage Archy, I can check the price properly now I’m in the office 😉

Hi Guys,
Many thanks for all the feedback and assistance, what a great service you provide. Have lost faith in the machine, I agree it is probably the main pump motor, but it could be something else as well. Fortunately for us we have been offered a second hand machine from a relative and we will see how that goes.
Keep up the good work 😀
