Well, I certainly wish I had found this forum before going ahead with the purchase of my Indesit DE73 dishwasher. I am located in Australia, where Indesit is not a common brand, but I had ‘heard’ from a ‘reliable source’ that it was a European import, and supposed to be fantastic. Big mistake. Have had 2 error codes so far, A02 and A05, and counting. Thought maybe the unit was a lemon, but from reading this forum, I can see I am not alone. Have read all the relevant topics, and copied the list of Error Codes (they help with the problem, but not really the solution). There is also only one serviceman in the Yellow Pages in all of Sydney who handle Indesit, and they are, of course, on the other side of the city.
I have learnt a lot from this experience, and I am saving this forum in my list of ‘Favourites’, ready for my next big investment.
Sincerely red-faced, both angry and embarrassed. Never trust your Mum’s opinion on whitegoods. 😉

    Hi Mel,
I don’t know how they position Indesit in your market, but in the UK they are percieved to be in the “cheap and cheerful” bracket. By aquisition the Merloni group has risen to become a top 4 world manufacturer, and now call themselves Indesit. Regrettably this growth has done nothing to improve the quality of the groups products and in many cases has denigrated the quality of existing brands. Hotpoint, for instance, produced Bosch dishwashers under licence for years and very good they were too. Now, they are re-branded Indesit machines, and seeing as this is a Public Forum, let’s be diplomatic and say that they are problematical!

I take it that yours has had a new heater (unlucky to be fair) and now has filling/flooding problems? An almost endemic problem in the UK, a result of poor design – the water-level control works on an almost hair-trigger basis between working and flooding (or not filling at all).

Value for money in Europe, you can’t beat Bosch appliances in my opinion. I don’t know how well the brand is promoted in Oz or much about the local competition, but sufficed to say – almost anything is better quality than Indesit!

    Good luck and regards,
    Penguin45.

Re: Indesit Dishwashers and their Problems

Things have gone from bad to worse, I’m afraid. Have now encountered error A08, and a surprise A14, which isn’t even on the list! Plus it occasionally likes to simply turn itself off completely – mid-cycle, which is lots of fun, too.
I am not sure about the heater having been replaced, since I bought this model second hand, however I am pretty sure the air dryer is shot. Since the machine is not under warranty, I don’t think I have anything to lose by cracking it open and having a look myself. Is there any sort of “basic guide to dishwashers” that will give me some pointers? I have still been unable to track down an instruction manual, but perhaps it is similar to another model that I can download the manual for?
(I have emailed Merloni for the manual, still waiting for a reply).
Any help at all would be fabulous. I don’t think I could sell it onto another unsuspecting fool such as myself, I am not that good an actor (despite the high quality of Australian television shows like Neighbours.)

Well, you’ve got a hatful Mel, assuming your error codes are the same as ours. 2 is element out of circuit (or blown), 5 is the water level switch not responding, 8 is motor out of circuit and 14 is syphoning (drain hose too low). It could all be caused by fill problems, it could be the computer being as mad as a hatter. How brave are you? Oh, it could be broken wires in the door, but unlikely in my experience……….

    Pull the plug first……. Please.

Re: Indesit Dishwashers and their Problems

Well, I must say, I am more than a little bit shocked. Received an e-mail from Indesit this morning, they are going to send me an information manual! To Australia! This is the first good news I have had since buying it.
Have managed to complete one cycle now, but it seems to have decided one was enough. I don’t think your comment about the mad computer was too far off the mark – it seems to pick a different error code for every cycle. Seems to me it is just testing my patience. Don’t think I have much left.
PS. “Light blue touch paper and then retire”: I’m not sure I follow, perhaps this is a UK “in” joke?

Re: Indesit Dishwashers and their Problems

😀 ABSOLUTE GARBAGE, EVO 2 AND EVO 3. OVERFILL FOR FUN AND WHEN THEY DO THEY WILL TAKE DOWN THE MOTOR. DONT USE 3 IN 1 TABLETS AS THIS IS BEING BLAMED FOR THE OVERFILL.
CR@P CR@P AND BLOODY CR@P, ITS SPOILT THE DISHWASHER MARKET BY PRICE ERROSION.
THE MODELS WITH HEATERS IN THE TANK, WATCH OUT FOR THESE, THEY OVERFILL SOAK THE SOUNDPROOFING (SMALL SECTION NEXT TO HEATER) THIS DROPS DUE TO BEING WET AND SITS ON THE HEATER WARMING VERY NICELY, ON FIRE INSPECTION ITS BURNS AWAY AND NO ONES THE WISER. POOR BU@@ER THAT BOUGHT IT IN THE FIRST INSTANCE. THE SORT OF CUSTOMER THAT COMES INTO YOUR SHOP AND SAYS IM NOT PAYING FOR THAT MODEL,, WONDER IF THEY BUY CHEAP FIRE INSURANCE TOO.

Re: Indesit Dishwashers and their Problems

I had the mysterious A02 error on my indesit DE73, it had all the engineers stumped. As it happens it had nothing to do with the heating element, it turned out that it was the thermostat on the bottom of the sump. For some reason it will not touch the sump & the only solution that I have found is to apply a rolled up wad of aluminium foil between the sump & thermostat. This runs happily for about 12 months before the foil needs replacing. Not ideal, but it works.

Don’t know if this helps you.

Re: Indesit Dishwashers and their Problems

when my 12 months was up the other day & I was doing my aluminium foil change all went well until I encountered a new error. 😥 The display started flashing an error of A13 this error is associated with a large repeated knocking noise from the door. I’ve know idea what the error means but a quick jiggle of the rinse aid dispenser appears to have fixed it. All is once again well or at least as well as it possibly can be. 😯

Re: Indesit Dishwashers and their Problems

All’s well that ends well, or so they say.

Have sold the little bu@@er, and glad to be rid of it. Bought a nice 2nd hand Fisher & Paykel model, and it hasn’t let me down yet.

Can only say I’ve learnt my lesson and won’t touch Indesit again.

    Thanks to everyone who helped.

    Mel.
