Been looking at the following…….

Samsung B1245SGSX
Hoover HNL6136S
Hotpoint WF340G
Servis M6003S

This is the replace my tempremental Indesit WE16S. Any thoughts or comments on my shortlist? So far the Samsung looks like a good unit from the reviews I have read…. Cant find any info on here about it.

You should be prepared to spend a little bit more and buy something like a Bosch, with modern washing machines the old saying, “you only get what you pay for ” is more true today than it ever was. If a £200 machine lasts you three to four years ( if your lucky these days) and a £300 to £400 machine lasts you ten to fifteen years then the maths are simple, together with less breakdowns along the way.

Not sure about the Samsung, but I would hazard a guess that if it is around £200 then it will not be decent quality, also spares could be a problem. The other three on your list are all from Italian owned companies. They have managed to do to the British domestic appliance industry something that Mussolini could not, although truth be told those companies have been on the slide for years.

Hoover=Candy
Hotpoint= Indesit
Servis = Merloni ( a different one to the Indesit Merloni)

What do you suggest in your expert opinion? My budget is £250-£300. I am pretty dissapointed with my Indesit seeing I spent over £300 and it’s breaking down only after 2 years of ownership. Sounds like Italian washing machines are like Italian cars, look good but break down all the time….

If you shop around you should be able to find a Bosch just under £300, that includes a full two year warranty.

I always thought Hotpoint and Hoover were good makes also, seems not the case…. I’ll have a look for a Bosch, but I need a silver one to match the rest of the kitchen!!!

Here you go, Silver Bosch just under £300, don’t worry about 1200 spin speed, that is more than adequate, anything above that removes an infinitesimal amount of extra water and just causes more noise and wear & tear.

Would you believe it, my dishwasher has now started playing up just now, turn it on and the lights come on but no cycle starts, it;s only 2 months old too! It’s Hoover… 😳

I went to the Currys web site where the link takes you and the price is back up well over £300!!!! 😯 What about Zanussi, are their units any good? I was looking at the Zanussi ZWF1221S

That was definately £299 last night. Zanussi is about the best of the major Italian manufacturers, good spares backup but parts can be pricey.
Some lower price , budget Zanussi are now fitted with a one piece moulded outer drum, the same as Indesit. That means no possible repair to , bearings, inner drum or outer drum. 😥

Any parts fitted would be guaranteed for 12 months, indesit also cover the whole appliance for 14 days incase it develops a different fault after the repair

Problem is, it looks like my main board is faulty, but as I have an intermittent fault, they may come out and find no fault and not change any parts, this incurrs a £34.95 charge…. Sods law, I wish it would break once and for all then there’s no arguing!

Reading your posts, I think you’ve made your own mind up. You’d do better scraping up an extra £50 – there are more quality options when you hit that mark. If you use the search facility, you’ll find pages of Indesit/Ariston faults, an awful lot of which are not economically solvable.

Move on and remember, you do get what you’re prepared to pay for.
