ParticipantI suspect the fan motor (Part No Coo230134 or maybe C00230134) on my Indesit FIMD 23 IX oven has burned out. Before I order the spare part can anyone advise me as to the resistance that a healthy field coil for the fan motor should be?
The motor is rated as 24-26 W and 220-240 V. The simple calculation would seem to suggest that using 24W and 240V the resistance should be around 2400 Ohms. Can anyone confirm this. The suspect motor has a resistance of 80 Ohms.
I would be most grateful for any advice on this subject.April 17, 2018 at 7:37 pm #455425electrofix

forget straight ohms law when talking about coils. ohms law works on DC but in an AC circuit everthing changes
if you have a reading then the coil is ok. if it was too low it would overheat and burn out
what is the fault you are getting

Hi Dave! I seem to have lost our last two communications. I’m not up to speed yet with this forum.
You suggested the way to get energy to the fan by resetting the clock. Before doing this I connected the fan directly to the mains. It turned, but somewhat reluctantly and very slowly. It is also a little stiff to turn by hand.
Do you think that this problem with the motor could have caused further problems with the system or should I just go ahead and order a new fan?April 19, 2018 at 8:51 pm #455427electrofix

if the fan is not turning freely then it will need replacing
if you reset the clock and turn oven on ( but not for to long) the fan should turn and the element should heat
if the fan turns albeit not as well as it should and you are getting heat then all being well changing the fan should cure it. The only component you cant check is the thermostat as it will do the element no good to overheat because of the slow fan.
before you order look at the element, if its still a nice round shape then ok but if its deformed then its worth changing that as well
