KeymasterHi
After our oven appeared to trip out our mains supply, the fan assisted oven mode now does not heat the element.
However, the grill mode heats the element and i think there is an element at the base of the oven which appears to be working. The oven is an Indesit Forno FM 20K.C
Any help or suggestions would be great
Thanks,

Hi Darren, Most likely cause is a faulty fan element. One slight problem. There appears to be an error in the official software we use to identify parts on this model. It shows a picture of the element in the diagram but there is no corresponding part number in the parts list. ( one of many errors and omissions unfortunately). An e-mail to Dave Conway would be a good idea, he may be able to help you further.
Be sure to isolate from the mains before going any further.

It may be a better idea to try and resolve it here for future reference and to help others with the same problem 😉
Could you post the full model please, there are two versions of FM20K with different letters and numbers after it, they are two completely different ovens 😕

I checked both models on PF Dave, as far as I can see the fan element is in the diagram but not in the parts list on either. 😥
Shows as item 26 for one model and 63 on the other but I cannot see it in the parts list.??

Me too 😀
I have a funny feeling that the ovens have no fan element, they do have the fan at the rear but rely on the upper/lower elements to heat the cavity. Increasingly PF seems to use generic diagrams 🙁
I have the email from Darren and it appears the lower element may have shorted against the cabinet, probably blown the selector switch or a safety thermostat I would imagine.
Darren, you asked about a repairer near you, if you go to Repairs@ there will be someone there who can help with a service visit.
Please let us know how you get on as I would be interested in the outcome, especially regarding the existence of a fan element 😉

Dave. The clearance between non insulated terminals on lower element and rear cover is about a cigarette paper thickness 👿 …….absolutely incredible piece of “design”. 🙄

there’s no fan element in these ovens, it uses top and bottom elements and a fan to help with air circulation. If you look closely at the pictures on the control panel it shows what elements should be on
going clockwise from the off position;
1st is light on only
2nd top and bottom element – no fan
3rd top and bottom element fan assisted
4th half grill- no fan
5th full grill – no fan
6th grill – fan assisted
then back to offhope that helps

Hello everybody
An update for you all;
The oven is an Indesit Forno FM20.K IX GB
When i do a continuity test through the lower element i get no reading so it has obviously blown.
Would that bring down the upper element on the “oven” settings but not the “grill” settings?
Just as a test i connected the lower element connectors together to create a circuit but it made no difference, does that sound right?
Also, the lower element plate says “Ariston 1200W” on it.
Thanks for your help so far fellas,
Darren

Lower element is part number C00023885 at £34.10.
Do a continuity test on the outer of the upper element, the centre is the grill (it’s essentially two elements in one) just in case that has also gone but I think something else may have been damaged from the “short” you mentioned previously.
Did you power the cooker up with the two leads connected together ? If you did it will have done some damage as well or blown your house trip. That just cuases a short circuit, please ensure the power is OFF at all times when working on the oven :zap:

Hi Dave
The outer element on the main oven element reads ok on my meter.
When i activate the grill i read 240v across the terminals the inner terminals.
When i activate the oven i read 0V across all terminals, fan assist and lamp all work ok.If the lower elememt is blown, will it prevent the upper element from heating?
The small thermal fuse? built into the upper element reads continuous so seems ok.
Thanks
darren

No, I think the thermostat or selector switch was blown when the element shorted.
Please don’t do live checks, continuity tests are far safer !

The selector switch is quite a mechanical affair with no sign of damage and seems to correctly activate all modes
Is the thermostat fastened to the ceiling of oven area and if so what is a good test to see if its faulty?
Thanks Dave

The thermostat is probably pushed on to the rear of the selector switch (picture isn’t that clear). Again, a simple continuity test should prove weather it is faulty or not.
