    Hi John

    This thread here should help.

There may be more, if you type Indesit AND franchise into the search bar 😉

    Re: Indesit Franchise

I actually think I’ve reached a bit of a conclusion on franchises reading back over all that stuff and, what I’ve learned and read elsewhere.

I think there’s basically two kinds of franchise…

One where a large organisation, such as McDonalds, a car dealership or whatever, want to franchise to expand, grow the brand and not have to worry about having to micro-manage every branch. This works well and pays.

The other kind where, really, all the franchise offers is a job that you pay to buy into and you end up as, basically, a sub contractor that has limited control over your own business. That doesn’t work well.

The first will cost tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands and give good returns in the main, well advertised and all that with products or services people actually want and go looking for.

The second is more of a “well you get out of it what you put into it” type affair costing a few grand up to a few score thousands of pounds. Whilst there is truth in you get what you put in, the same is true of your own business if you choose to start one and even £5K buys an awful lot of advertising and/or equipment. But usually it’s services or goods that aren’t so well advertised and will not generally be household names which, as any marketing person will tell you, is very, very hard to achieve. So, you only get business when people want you.

Also in that category sits the like of Indesit, it’s really just a cheap way of getting an employee that you have no liability for in terms of sickness, insurance, redundancy and all of the rest and, here’s the really brilliant bit, you don’t even have to send any work to them and when you don’t you don’t have to pay them either… brilliant!

    I think I’d pass too. 😉

On the other hand, maybe I should set up a franchise business model, sell some poor saps a “franchise” and move to Spain.

But the proof is in the financials really for each one.

Any that I have come across for this industry offers no protection to the franchisee and, from what I can see, the only people that win in all this are the ones that flogged the franchise… who are now residing in Malaga…

Also I’ve never seen offered in this industry has a contract that hasn’t been worth the paper it was written on with Draconian terms with little or no guarantees on volumes or incomes and it doesn’t pay enough to be worth investing any cash into. If it was, there’d be a number of large companies snapping up franchises… they’re not.

Na, I decided to avoid some name dropping to avoid a sprawling debate about it all.

After all, it’s most unlike me to provoke a debate about things isn’t it. 😉

I could bang on about the topic a bit though if you like.

All I wish is for people who look at this sort of thing to think very long, very hard and get lots of advice before they part with a single penny of their own cash.

Have you ever used Fixzone. 😆

JTM are so bad they must be doin there accounts with an abacus. 😯

0800 the greatist part of the company, really amazing franchise well worth the cash.

They now fix, install and service domestic gas heaters, boilers etc, next thing you no they’ll have a forum, spares sales and a retail outlet.

I can just see it now, all bright and glowing with a really big tool on the roof.

I’d never insinuate something like that I’m sure.

I forgot about the screwdriver… honest.
