Looks like a bit of a stalemate on this one then Martin .
Indesit are never going to give out the disk free and I doubt any wholesaler like CDSl could persuade them to allow exploded diagrams of their spares on Mediator.Do you have any solution or ideas to solve this problem?
I did suggest some sort of sharing scheme to help with costs but didn`t seem to generate any interest and it may not be too convenient for those who need the disk regularly.Stalemate , but there is a very similar thread about manufacturers restrictive practices .

Lets just say at this point Bryan that ‘the jungle drums are beating’ right now. Stalemate is not part of our vocabulary on this issue and sooner or later logic will prevail. But unless this subject is kept at the forefront of everyones thoughts it is in danger of us all accepting the status quo (no jokes there guys – be serious). We will not, we cannot, we shall not!
Brave rallying cry and all that…………… :rolls:

seems like copyright issues are not deemed a problem in Russia 😀

Very interesting Jim
I don’t believe copyright is the big stumbling block over here either as CDSL & Parts Center already publish exploded drawings of many makes.
I would appreciate getting feed-back from them incidentally as to the problems in doing that? I guess it involves a lot of hard graft though as there are thousands of types, makes and models to be reconfigured in order to avoid copyright I guess?

CDSL reprint with permission I would think. Whether that is online or offline permission is required for certain material or you can risk being taken to task for it. It is generally viewed that there is a serious of measures to be taken first, like remove the article/property, before any action is taken. Or at least that’s my experience of online instances.
You will probably find that these sorts of things, which appear all over the place if you go hunting, are posted up quite innocently in the main with the poster or publisher unaware that they are in breach of copyright.

Can anyone and, I do mean anyone, explain to me why I have to pay for information to buy goods?
K.Because they think you have to much money Ken 😆 being a north of the borderer that is 😉
OK I don’t know the price of this Partsfinder but the Elux. TDS is very fair, they must put as much work into its development as Hotmerithingy. Do you get the slightest inclination that Indesit are grabbin barstewards? :rolls:

Partfinder is almost three times the price of TDS, and 100 times less useful. 😥

cant blame merloni for charging for the partfinder disc i suppose
but,its too expensive i agree
must cost em a fortune to update/ produce, and thats probably why
bottom line is.. if your selling their stuff, u should get it free.. its simple.. we dont charge people for coming in the shop to look at goods now do we?

Well… here it comes… 😉
Actually, you can. I’ll explain why.
The disc is only an extension of what they, or indeed any manufacturer, has to do for internal use anyway. They need it to service their own products.
By that logic you have to accept that, irrespective of whether they choose to sell or give away the information that they’d have to pay for it anyway, regardless.
It just so happens that they’ve got a queue of mugs waiting and willing to pay for it. Us.
So they use us paying for their development and upkeep costs of their information which, in cases such as Indesit, they don’t even have the decency to provide the full data on the appliances in the info. Nice little earner I’d say and offsets the costs nicely, I wish I could come up with a scam like that which seems so innocent.
On a batch run, assuming that you don’t have disc duplication facilities yourself you’d be pressed to be paying more than £1.50 per DVD, less for a printed CD. If you do it internally it will cost you upfront for the duplicator, a good one will set you back a few grand which, with the money charged for some discs and the volumes involved, you could pretty much get back in the first year with ease.
Don’t be fooled by the “it costs us so much to produce these” rubbish, the cost is already there, it’s only being offset by external sales.
Us the internet, like LG, Samsung and so on and the costs drop even more. Use it properly and it drops still more.
What you are also not being told is the reduction in part enquiries and the reduction in admin costs in spares handling staff as they then don’t have to sit all day looking up part numbers, you’ve already done the work for them.
Which is why it grates me even more if A.N. Manufacturer charges or tries to charge me for service information that I work for as I’m not entirely stupid and I can see this. And, anyone that thinks for one minute that you get this information as a concession or as a goodwill thing is seriously deluded.

I’ve noticed on this topic that noone has mentioned my real bugbear with indesit. Why does Partfinder time out? Well we know why 👿 but every other disc we use carries on regardless and lets you decide when you need up to date info.
I stumped up the money once and then was gobsmacked when the bloody disc stopped working four months later. Blatant rip off.
Anything to get the ball back in our court would be lovverly. 😉

try changing the date on your laptop to the date you bought the disk..it should then work.
worth a try!

Probably not recommended to be honest as half the other software you have installed won’t work after changing the date 😉
Better still, beat Merloni up via email with complaints about the cost of the software 😀
Email addy – tradeorders@indesitcompany.com :protest:

Have met quite a few computer buffs with ideas on how to bypass the expiry date. So far none have worked. Does this again mean that the only totally reliable aspect of Indesit is the fact that they know how to stop things working. 😉

The Partfinder disk doesn’t time-out as such, it’s the fact that each disk has to be registered back at Indesit that makes it time out. If you convince Indesit that it is April 1st 1066 your disk will last a bit longer! 😆
