ParticipantSo i had abit of a strange issue with the tumble dryer the other day, my wife had just loaded the dryer and then called into me could i take a look.
When i went out to it, i could smell a burning smell but was unable to locate where it was coming from, i took the plug out and had a quick check over it and found no signs of where the burning smell would be coming from, so we plugged it back in and tried it again and all that happened was it hummed but never ran, today i took everything apart and checked the heater and motor all the electrics making sure nothing had arked out and all connections were okay.
I tested the cap which in this model is a 9.5uF and it was low so i ordered a new cap today. When i plugged it back in with all covers off to try and see an issue everything fired up and worked, so i put all covers back on and its been running fine ever since, so could the cap of been the problem here? would that emit the burning smell without it actually being burnt?
Has anyone else had this issue?
Thanks

ModeratorMost likely just the capacitor, it would get rather hot if there was no motor action to blow air over the heating elements. One word of caution, I think this machine is one of the dryers subject to a fire safety recall. Has your dryer had the safety modifications done if it is such a model?
You can check HERENovember 3, 2019 at 3:01 pm #464381TrickyRikki88

You can check HEREHello Iadom, yes it was one of the dryers that had the recall but indesit sent an engineer out and carried out the safety modification on it quite a while ago, been fine ever since, the cap should be here tuesday so i will replace it, was just curious as to why it wouldnt run at all and then it has been running fine ever since.
Thanks for the advice tho, much appreciated
