    Hi,

I’ve got some loud intermittent noise from the pump on my Indesit IDC85, usually towards the end of a drying cycle.

I’ve had a look and the pump is running constantly. I’ve disassembled the float switch and cleaned everything and verified that it can move freely. I’ve then ran it with the cover to the pump section off so I can see it in action. The pump still runs continually. Manually moving the float switch has no effect on it whatsoever.

My thinking at this point is that the micro switch itself is probably at fault, however it’s not a simple case of testing with a multimeter as for some reason on this model it’s a 3 wire micro switch and I’ve got no idea what three wires could possibly be needed for.

Any advice before I start ordering parts based on my layman’s guess work?

the float is probably used as a water container full detector. the power to the dryer goes through the microswitch. when activated the third wire feed a light on the front of the machine saying something like ” container full”

when you say the pump is running constantly do you mean even if the unit door is open and not operating ?

No sorry. To be clear I mean it’s running constantly while the machine is running. If I manually lift the lever or depress it, the pump still continues to run. There’s still a good click sound when the switch the operates so it sounds intact.

The pump does run continually on these machines even when empty. Sounds like you need a new pump assembly.

    Re: Indesit IDC85 Pump issues

Ah okay, many thanks. I presumed the switch operated the pump. With a second set of eyes I can now see that the ’empty water’ light comes on when I lift the lever. In that case I guess the noise I’m hearing must be pump bearings.
    Straight forward pump replacement then.

    Again, thanks for the help.
