Indesit idc8t3b motor not turning

After replacing a snapped belt caused by a zipper getting stuck in the drum and jamming it, on checking the drum turns freely and switching back on to test I encountered a rumbling noise and the motor not turning. Common wisdom is that this is caused by capacitor failure, so I have replaced the capacitor as well. But the problem persists. Should I assume that the motor has burnt out after spinning under no load?

A capacitor failure usually leads to a humming noise not a rumbling one. When you say the motor is not turning do you mean the drum is not turning. The drum should move when turned by hand but not freely, there should be some resistance when trying to push it round. I am wondering if you have got the belt back on correctly? These motors very rarely burnt out and you would be able to smell a burnt out motor.

Hi iadom, thanks for your reply.
The belt is correctly seated around the drum and pulley and the drum turns with a little resistance. I have removed the belt to test whether the motor works when not connected to the belt, but it doesn’t turn. The noise is definitely a grumbling rather than a hum. There has been no trace of any burning smell. The noise doesn’t seem to be coming from the motor but from the other side of the machine and I wonder if it’s just the normal sound coming from the heater or condenser that wouldn’t normally be noticed over the sound of the motor and drum?

Update: I am a massive IDIOT.
I have just noticed that when removing the front panel I had dislodged one of the connections to the timer dial. I’m so f…g embarrassed right now. Please accept my apologies for wasting your time.

The noise you can hear is probably the drain pump.
