    Hi Folks

Went to this yesterday with a leak/not filling tank prob which was just a typical drain blockage in the collection/pump container at the back.

On inspection it would seem a new generation of tumble drier design I have never come across before and just wondered how it worked and how much can us engineers do on these machines?

It didn’t have a conventional heater at the back but looked like some sort of heat pump/refrigerator type unit in the base going to a fixed condenser/heat exchanger where the old condenser used to be – refrigeration type pipes going to it and all. It also has a filter on the front of the condenser/ heater instead of the removable condenser, as well as the usual filter at the bottom of the door access.

Does anybody know how these beasts work? They look like a right pig to work on? What about heater TOC’s – the only thing I could see was a NTC by the front of the drum? What happens if the fixed condenser/heat exchange gets blocked as fluff obviously getting through if it blocked the drain outlet at the back as they do – no chance of removing the condenser/heat exchange to clear the channels at the back? Are there any no-no’s on these machines like tillting the new washing machines back with water in? 😡

This looks terribly overcomplicated to do a simple job and looks all controlled by the PCB board :rolls: . The machine is only just over 12 months and referred them back to Indesit should they continue to have problems.

Just wondered if any of you folks had come across one of these before and knew anything about them.

    Thanks

    Mick

    Hi Mick,

I went to one earlier this year, got a shock when I opened it up, luckily it was just a broken belt. I started a thread about the machine asking for more information.

Thanks for the link Nick – did search it first but didn’t come up with that for some reason?

Following Martin’s youtube link it’s looks like this type of machine has been around for a couple of years now with Miele, Panasonic and Bosch to the fore front. Basically it’s a fridge unit evaporator and condenser all in one then :rolls:.

It would also explain my concerns in that it was slow to heat up and the customers complaints that it took ages to dry.

Still on the Indesit machines I don’t think we will have to worry about heating problems as they haven’t modified the rear bearing yet and looks like the drums haven’t got a replacible shaft on the back so that will probably only give them a 3-5 year life span with an unsprung jockey pulley!

Made me smile when I was watching one of the Panasonic video’s how they were praising it drying time of just under 2 hrs compared with the other like tumble driers – I have a 40 yr old Hoover that dries a full load in about 50 mins 😛

Still some body must have thought it was a good idea – they just don’t have to deal with the practicalities of repairing the thing 😯

    Thanks for the reply

    Mick
