Hello all,
I have an Indesit IDL 502 dishwasher. It’s a few years old but it’s only used about once a week. Suspicious as to the state of the cold water hose. I’ve just replaced it. It’s all connected up properly (and yes the water tap is turned on!). But it won’t fill.
On startup, it drains residual water from the sump fine. Then it makes a humming noise and the heating element soon gets hot. But it does not fill so I turn it off quickly. There are no flashing lights. Everything looks normal.
I pulled it out and took off the back panel. There are no obvious twisted hoses or disconnected wires.
I’m not really up to any sophisticated electrical work with a multimeter. But I’m not afraid to whip out and exchange parts. So I’m hoping that you will make be able to make a decent diagnosis and recommended course of action.
What I’d really like is for someone to make a very good guess as to the part that needs replaceing and I’ll take it from there.

I believe the model number may be French. But it’s a standard bottom of the range Indesit dishwasher. It’s been just fine until now. If anyone can help to diagnose this problem, I’d be very grateful. (Someone suggested turning it upside down, which apparently is the cure for a faulty water intake).Looking forward to help!

Whoever this someone is, they are an idiot. :eeek:
There are at least 20 different IDL models for the UK alone, and TBH all Indesits are considered ‘bottom of the range’ 🙁
Several possibilities, all pure guesswork, faulty fill valve, flow meter, pressure switch, control PCB, circulation pump etc, etc.

Many thanks for your answer. Can you help me to eliminate any of the possible problem areas? Can I test the fill valve or do something to confirm it works? If you were me, would you replace the pressure switch anyway!?
It doesn’t seem to be the circulation pump (but what do I know?). And if it’s the PCB, I think I’ll throw my hat at it. As far as I can see, a new PCB is well over 100 pounds. And a new similar machine only about 250 pounds.
Any ideas?

As I have said, it is difficult to second guess, the heater should not come on if there isn’t enough water in it, but there is very little water in these machines anyway so if the circulation pump is faulty then you will get a humming noise and the heater glowing because no water is being splashed over the element.
If the valve is faulty then it should give an error message of a fill time out and the heater should not come on, unless of course the pressure switch has stuck closed.
TBH I have very rarely changed valves or pressure switches, plenty of main circulation pumps, heaters and PCB’s though.
Again this is all pure speculation without knowing exactly what model you have. 🙁
