1 + 2 is normally a drain time out error. It can sometimes be a software recognition error but that is not common.
The drain pump on these machines is very prone to jamming due to particles of glass, bone, wood, plastic, sweetcorn etc, etc getting stuck in the pump.
Not difficult to clear, mains plug out, mop out as much as you can from inside and then place a few large towels on the floor. Tip the machine over onto its left side (looking from the front) and remove the base plate. you may need to release the side panels on certain models.
Take note of the connections of the wiring to the float switch and remove plug.
If you then follow the grey plastic outlet pipe into the machine you will find the drain pump.
Removal of the pump is fairly obvious, protect the wiring etc from spillage and you should be able to remove the pump obstruction. Be careful to refit the black ‘O’ ring.

CoolBIG BIG THANKS. javascript:emoticon(‘:D’)
Very HappyBig thanks from my wife. And I assure you that means something …..
Here in rural France, where the camembert roams free, we don’t get to see white goods professionals very often, thus I was dragged from slumber and thrust into action and your advice was SPOT ON.
This is an IDL500, now 8 years old. The symptoms were when fault first appeared 2 green lights counting from the left, no flashing, hard on. After a reset single green light leftmost illuminates and gentle hum from within and then nothing, except green light.
I removed grey drain pipe and then the drain pump from the sump, and there.. within the impeller was ….. 1cm or 1/2 and inch of walnut shell, insertion of digit and robust shove removed said and impeller moved freely.
Not entirely sure that the ‘spring clip’ on the pipe has reseated nicely, I may have to put a proper jubilee clip on it, but all is well now.
Brilliant, thanks forum, the collective rules !

Jim,
Will this error code be the same for an Indesit DI620? Light 1+2 flashing rapidly together and water not draining away.Is the repair described above the same for our model?
Many thanks,

Participantiadom,
The pump and outflow pipe were clean with no obstructions!
All put back together and run on 4. This cycle failed with 1+2 lights flashing. Restarted with 1, failed again. Then 3 actually worked to the end with no water left. Then we tried 2 and it has failed again with 1+2 flashing and water in the bottom.
Any other ideas?
Thanks John

Sadly it is an Indesit so anything is possible. 😥
If it is emptying correctly then the other fault that is supposed to be shown up by 1 + 2 flashing is a software recognition error, not something I have seen but the Indesit electronics are about the most unreliable on the market so it may be a PCB failure.
Removing the mains plug and checking all of the contacts on the PCB by squeezing them up a little might be worth a try, other than that its time to try a new PCB or go for ‘the other alternative’ 😉

ParticipantIadom,
When it failed to finish a cycle it did not empty as well.
Where would the PCB be? In the door?
Thanks again,

If it failed to empty then it suggests the pump needs checking again or may even be faulty.
The tiniest piece of material can block these pumps, it may be a small piece that is floating around in the pump.
Did you remove the pump completely and open it up?

ParticipantIadom,
The friend that looked at the machine did mentioned that the impellor was free moving. I do not think he opened it up, just spun the impellor from outside.
When the machine fails to complete a cycle, there is water left behind. However, when selecting another cycle the first thing that happens is the water is drained away – gurgling from sink plug hole, and the sump is empty.
So, it seems it may be the PCB then? In the door?

PCB is in the door, no real way of testing it though. I would always open the pump up to check, if there is a small object in there it could be sticking intermittently.
Be careful with the inner door edges if you do open it up, they are razor sharp.
