ParticipantHi
I own an Indesit IDL 705 dishwasher which is approx 2 years old and has decided to stop functioning correctly on starting new wash cycles.
Symptom – The dishwasher is started as normal, the drainage pump runs for approx 20-30 secs with the first status light (No 1) steadily illuminated.
In normal operation the dishwasher normally begins to draw water after the drainage pump switches off, however the problem I’ve been facing is –
1) drainage pump runs continuously
2) the first status light flashes rapidly with one single (very short) beep.I’m fairly confident when it comes to trying my own repairs and I’ve had the unit apart at the base, and have checked the drainage pump for blockages and found the unit to run normally with no problems. There is also no water ingress that I’m aware of into the base of the machine.
I can see no blockages within the transparent salt reservoir, however thats not definitive as the plastic reservoir is quite murky.
One item of note is that I removed a few small small pieces of plastic label/wrapper from the spray arm nozzles.
At a guess I would have to say the there is some kind of sensor that tells the control unit, that the drainage cycle is complete, that is not working, but not having access to a techinical manual I wouldnt know.
The last twist to the story is that when the unit was tipped back upright, it began to work normally?
the failure re-occurred shortly after and i managed to replicate a recovery by tipping the unit 45 degrees to either side a couple of times.
I’ve checked the manual and can find no explanation for this error code?, I’ve also had a look around this forum and can find no posted problem that relates to the one I’ve had.
I’d appreciate any tips, as i said I’m confident enough to attempt any minor repairs myself and if possible would like to avoid the cost of an engineer callout.
Many thanks in advance for any tips that can be provided.
cheers

Are you absolutely certain there was no water in the base, Neon 1 flashing is a flooded base error. Did you remove the wires from the small micro switch attached to the base. Some of these switches have three terminals and refitting to the wrong ones would give this fault, also the microswitch itself or the float could be sticking. From memory, if the switch has three terminals the two wires or the plug go onto the top two terminals. The fact that it works as you tilt it suggests the switch in the base, or water ingress is your problem.
Plug out at all times when you have it opened up.

Edit : thanks for the reply jim
I’m absolutley certain that the base was dry when i took the base access panel off, I’ll recheck the polystyrene float tomorrow to make sure its not been propped up during my re-install
There was also no apparent water leakage on the wood floorboards underneath the unit as well, there was some water ingrees when i removed the left hand side panel, however this appears to have come from some kind of water flow detection/inlet chamber (which has a small open hole on top) which probably leaked when I tipped the unit to access the base.
I’ll let you know what happens, plug out always =)

That tube is the overflow, a constant cause of problems on these machines, particularly if you use 3 in1 or 4 in 1 tablets with rinse aid, this can cause overfoaming. I hear that the current production has that overflow turret blanked off now. You would not see water on the floor until you tilt the machine, as soon as a small amount of water enters the base it trips the float switch and goes into drain mode.

hi jim
took the base off the unit this morning and discovered the flood microswitch was activated.
This was due to the polystyrene float being damaged and out of shape(not sure how that happened?)I’ve replaced the float with a homemade version, it doesnt look pretty but its worked the few times I’ve simulated a flood (on the kitchen sink!)
Looking closer at the base plate there does seem to be some water staining so it looks like you hit the nail on the head there.
I’ve got the unit on a test run now, hopefully it should complete with no further fault.
Thanks for your help, i was ready to get the marigolds out and start doing it all by hand!
P.S
whilst we’re on the subject what do fault lights 1 + 3 illuminated mean? I had that one a few months ago and it disappeared after isolating the dishwasher for an hour, could it be connected to my existing problem?
either way I’ll look at changing the dishwasher tablets.
many thanks again

1+3 refers to blocked filters. Use a dishwasher cleaner occasionally to prevent this. For best results, try Fairy Active Bursts, without any rinse aid, plus salt if you are in a hard water area.

i’ve carried a few test runs today without detergent and no problems.
however, as soon as i add a detergent tablet (3 in 1’s are all i have at home right now) i get a leak from the from the right hand lower corner on the door side.
A closer examination has shown that the leak is actually detergent foam which appears to be rising above the level of the bottom of the dishwasher compartment, and is making its way through a gap between the seal and the door.i doesnt leak much, but I guess if you run the machine quite a lot, like i have been recently then a buidlup of water could occur and trigger the polystyrene float switch to trigger.
either way, if i cant get a detergent tablet that doesnt foam up as much as the combined tablets I’ll probably have to stop using the machine for safetys sake.

When you did the test runs with the detergent did it have a full load of dirty dishes in it, if not it will foam up.
Have you got rinse aid in the dispenser? Also this might help. http://tinyurl.com/y7vqyu
