ParticipantHi all,
I have an Indesit IDL40 UK:
Type Number: LS08-EVO3
S/N: 50929 4103The model is approx. 5 years old.
Before the event described below, we have had intermittent issues historically with lights 2 and 4 flashing, however by resetting the machine these would go away. This would happen maybe 1 in 20 times the machine was used.
However, on Friday night two plastic contains somehow managed to get onto the heating element and were melted. I managed to remove the plastic from around the heating element and from the bottom dish rack, and tried to use the dishwasher again. Sadly, the machine started making a low humming noise and nothing happened.
I found this post by Paul F and followed it to see if the problem was the drain pump, however I was able to turn the impeller and found no debris. I reassembled the unit and tried running option 3 (Rapid and Dry).
What happens is that the unit drains, then fills with water. The solenoid opens the door for the tablet and then…nothing. The unit just emits a low humming noise and light 3 remains on (solid, not flashing). At this point normally it starts making lots of noise, water sloshing around etc.
After leaving it for a few minutes, when I open the door the heating element is hissing (and is far too hot to touch).
I am at a loss at how to proceed. I realise the unit is old and has a poor reputation (judging by some of the comments in other threads about the IDL40), however we are in the process of selling our flat with the white goods included so I am loathe to go and spend >£200 on a new dishwasher for someone else to use.
I am electrically and mechanically competent if instructions are provided and willing to give anything a go. I saw in this thread that some electronic components were replaced from Maplin, I would be willing to give this a bash if help can be provided to find the faulty part.
Cheers,
Colin

Sounds like the main circulation pump has died, part around £100.:(
If you are really lucky it may just be the capacitor but as this happened after the plastic items melted it is possible that some debris has got into the main circulation pump.

Thanks for the reply iadom.
I had a horrible feeling that might have been the faulty part. It’s not worth me paying that for a new circulation pump, it’d be better to spend a bit more and get a new dishwasher given the age of the unit.
Is it possible the main circulation pump has debris in it? Is it possible that I could clear it myself, or is it too difficult?

It’s not going to cost you anything to remove it and have a go TBH. 😉
