Sometimes when doing a wash cycle our dish washer makes pretty loud, repeating clicking noises.
They happen at the start of the cycle, and sound like the dishwasher ejecting the soap tablet from its little compartment – only instead of a *click* (and the thud of the tablet bouncing off a few plates) the clicking continues for about 30 seconds. I’ve also noticed that when this happens the “wash” light flashes with it – either it’s trying to tell me some error code, or the current required to fire the door catch makes the LEDs dim out…
Usually on these wash cycles the water doesn’t heat up that well and the plates are left with a greasy soapy residue or little pools of dirty water.
I’ve looked at all the obvious things – the washer is clean, the seals are good, there’s no knives or spoons stuck in unusual places and it happens even if I run the machine empty with a bottle of cleaner in it. It doesn’t happen every wash either which is kind of annoying – I like my devices either totally working, or totally broken.
Now, the good part is that this is a dishwasher in a rented house, so if it’s dead I can just moan at the landlord 😉 But is there anything obvious I need to check?
The manual is a bit rubbish, beyond “clean the filters” it doesn’t tell me much about cleaning the machine out. Like, are there any equivalents to the lint trap in my washing machine hidden away in the back or underneath?
