ParticipantHi,
I had this problem last year but by taking the dishwasher apart I somehow manage to solve this problem. But now it is back again.
For a while we were able to solve the problem by pouring boiling hot water in the bottom of the dishwasher ( where the filters are) and it would work again. So the problems must be something to do with the sensor there!!
Now I have taken the drain pump off , all the pipes that lead to the filter bit but still it will not work.
I have checked the pressure switch but it is a bit hard to know if this works or not!! Is there a way to check it?
From another thread Iadom give some really good advice but there are some bits i don’t understand :-DEA module (behind plinth). Where about is this?
The pressure switch has not moved to the full position
during filling.- How do I check this?Check the pressure switch, pressure chamber and wiring.- Done this
Bit100 timer (in console). –is this in the circuit board?
The pressure switch has not moved to the full position during
the initial fill, or the machine has gone through the filter cleaning cycle and been
unable to clear the blockage. again how do i check this?
Check the pressure switch, pressure chamber and wiring.
Check the high pressure sensor switch (opens at normal wash pressure) and
chamber. –where about is this?Check for oversoaping. How will a know this?
I am sorry for all the questions but this is new to me – I would get an engineer out but I live in Austria and it would cost me as much as a new dishwasher!! Also i am moving hopefully back to the UK soon so I don’t really want to buy a new one.
But if I don’t get it fixed soon my wife will kill me!!
😥
Thanks for any help given.July 11, 2009 at 12:02 am #291328Penguin45

Sorry for the delayed reply, it’s been a chaotic week.
Look, try and keep this simple – your problem is that the machine is not detecting what it considers to be a high enough flow of water. If the machine does not over-fill and flood, the pressure switch is working, so ignore it. You say that you have cured this problem by pouring boiling water into the machine before now, so I would suggest that the culprit is almost certainly the secondary pressure switch, which is a higher pressure device mounted in the outlet hose of the circulation pump, between the pump and the floor of the wash cavity. It’s a real cow to access…….. It may be gunged up (Speak firmly to the senior dishwasher operative; the machine is a dishwasher, not a waste disposal unit.), or it may have failed. Gunge is easy – strip and clean thoroughly.
The switch is just that – a make and break switch, operated by a pressure diaphragm. If you have the lungs of a trombone player, you can check function with a basic multimeter.
Stay safe – power off before handling anything.

Hi,
Thank-you for taking the time to answer. I will check the part you say.
I was just wondering you talk about the ‘High enough flow of water’ could that mean the pressure of water from the tap is not enough?? Our mains water pressure in the kitchen is not very good and sometimes the water from the tap is just a dribble. Could that cause this problem?
Thanks

Nope, circulation pressure. If the filters were badly blocked, it would strangle the flow of water into the circulation pump. The machine detects adequate water flow by the high pressure switch being activated.

Well,
Spent all day taking it apart – it was a bit of pain to get to the pressure switch but the worst part was the clips they use on the hoses I could not use them again so I had to find a Jubilee clip that would fit- eventually found one on the washing machine.
No sign of any gunge at all. I must admit I always put things in the dishwasher without any food on and I check the filters after each wash.
I checked all the pipes could see no sign of any blockage . So the last thing to check is the circuit board. If it is not that then it must be either of the pressure switches. I am inclined to think the one near the sump because it worked for a while with the hot water trick!!. I did check that sensor and the switch did move.
Do you stock that part?? Also how much would it be to Austria? If not I could get someone form the UK to bring here.
Thanks for your helpo
