Indesit IDL535 loud buzzing

I have the above dishwasher and it is a few years old.
Today it refused to fill with water, and after removing the bottom spray arm and pouring a kettle of hot water into the hole (the sump?) it resumed working normally.
This was until 10mins into the cycle when a loud intermittent buzzing noise started. it sounds as though it’s coming from the front panel, near the top – perhaps where the detergent tray is?
That tray has been stuck once or twice in the past, but it’s been OK for the last few months.
Anyway, the buzzing was intermittent, but proceeded to get worse and worse, until it was nearly constant. It even carried on (albeit a bit quieter) during the crying cycle, so at that point I switched it off.

Any ideas as to what’s wrong with it?
