Our dishwasher won’t work. It’s about 2 years old and has only been used for the last 6 months. It won’t even begin a wash cycle now. I’ve tried resetting it by holding the stat button down for 3 seconds and it beeps three times. Then I try to start a wash and the 3H light comes on. It doesn’t flash or anything. Then I heard from the Indesit helpdesk that it might have water in the base pan so I tilted it to one side and nothing came out. I even took the bottom off it and had a look at the pump and it seems fine. There’s no blockages in the hose so I’m stumped.
One other thing I tried is to hold the start button down for a long time, like 30 seconds, and it decided to start taking water in. This went on for about 20 seconds then it bleeped and the 3H and 9H lights started to flash. I bailed the water out and now I’m at square one again. I’ve donw this whole procedure twice now so I don’t know what to do. ❓

I’ve just taken the bottom off the bloody thing again and had another look. The impellor (I presume it’s the impellor, it’s attached just before the waste hose begins) is a little rusty. Could this be the problem? Otherwise could it be the solenoid? It’s taking on water so I don’t think it’s the solenoid.

Alright, update. I took a few bits off, poked around and took some wires off and put them back and checked the float switch was working. All good. I put the bottom back on, flipped it the right way up and turned the thing on. It started to pump water out. Great!! Then it started sucking some water in, or trying to anyway. Then it began pumping again and now is flashing 3H and 9H. At least the pump works though. Any ideas anyone? Anyone? What does 3H + 9H mean in error code language?

    hi kiwipaul

from what u describe i would suspect the ciculation motor is faulty, these machines have a static fill for about 2 litres followed by a fill with circ motor on. if it is the motor its not a particularly easy job and could prove expensive

Thanks for your reply John. I hoped this wasn’t going to be the case. Is there a fool proof way of checking it’s the motor before I go out and book an engineer? Are you familiar with the error codes on this model?

    Thanks alot.

When you say 3H & 9H do you mean neons 2 + 4 ? If so you may have a heater fault.

If you number them 1 2 3 4 from left to right then it’s 1 + 3 which are flashing. I’ve been trying to get it to kick into a cycle by turning it off and waiting for 5 mins then turning it back on again. All it does is fill up with water for 30 seconds then pump it out again and the lights 1 + 3 start flashing.

Iadom’s gone to bed, so will confirm that the code indicates a circulation pump failure – it should cut in after an initial fill operiod. The motor is a capacitor start/run motor, so the capacitor may have failed; the motor itself may have failed or be jammed.

This is an expensive component, so at this point it is probably worth sending for the pros for a confirmed diagnosis – it might be an expensive mistake just taking a punt on the motor. Click the link below.

If carrying on yourself an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you prices and ordering.

    Power off if going inside………..
