Afternoon all.
For the last couple of days, our tumble dryer has been making an ever increasing squeezing noise. Last night, we took it to pieces to see if we could find a problem, and we did. The drum rotations feels fine, the belt looks in very good condition and the motor shaft rotates fine.
The problem is that attached to the rear of the motor shaft, are fan blades that push air through a heating element and into the tumble dryer itself. These blades are now touching the metal plate located on the back of the Dryer. I’ve sketched a diagram as an attachment.
I’ve been thinking of ways to fix it, as I don’t really want to be messing around too much of the motor (on first glansce, it appeared a sealed unit but I didn’t try to take it to pieces). I’ve considered adding a few washers to the fixings on the back plate, to move it out of the fans reach. However, that will mean there will be small gaps at the back that will disrupt the air flow – which I assume is bad. I Coulld Duct tape it up, to foil tape it up, but as this area also encloses the heating element, will this be a fire hazard?
I can’t see many other methods to fix it. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
