ParticipantI attended the job to Indesit IS60V with a knocking noise when the drum rotates.
I found the rear teardrop holder was worn through. I thought it should be a simple job to do but when I came to look for the parts, the parts are available but I wanted to ensure a good repair then I saw bearing kits.
I thought I check out this forum and it does not seem to help much as people are saying depend on the age of the machine and the type of bearings used.
Having said that, I have a mountain of fluff to clean out as well. The client says that it happens all the time (mind you the fluff filter was torn and she didn’t see the importance of it no matter how many time I explained it).
It’s rather disappointing to learn that it is repairable that I would have to replace the felts, bearings, filter, clean out the fluff in which it would be cheaper to do that than buy a new machine then only to be told “I’ll get a new machine” before I even get to quote the cost of repair. Clearly a decision was made before I rang her doorbell!
Sometime I think why do a client get this in their mind that the machine is no good and must get a new one even though it’s repairable. I wonder why do they bother phoning me for my advice when it’s clearly that her mind is made up before I arrived! Still I charged her for the call out!

nice bread & butter job, just need C00113038 ( SHAFT KIT ), comes with both types of bearings, front and back seals, new front bearing pads, new shaft and screws . Also listed as a Qual part (204807).
Can be purchased for around £10January 25, 2011 at 11:48 am #342432Phidom

The customer is right, the machine is no good. The repair is easy enough but the bearing will fail again in a couple of years. I only change the felts if the old ones are in bad condition, they are usually OK.

Thanks guys.
Masterpart sells the shaft kits for around £10 plus postage. (MDA1703080)
I dropped the quotation round. She already ordered a new tumble dryer with extended warranty. No skin off my nose.
I will get her old machine so I can do it up just for the fun of it and keep it for myself!
