I have an Indesit IS70C condensing tumble drier that is 13 month old, just outside the guarantee.

It has started tripping the RCD in my main fuse box. I tried running it with a circuit breaker in line and it trips that too. The wiring in the room where it is has all been tested and certified by an electrician.

This fault only happens when there are items in the drum. If run empty it appears to run OK for a few minutes (I didn’t give it a long run on empty). When I put even a few items, less than half a load, it trips the power after a minute or so.

I have contacted Comet (where it was bought from) but they state that although the part may be covered under the “sale of goods act” they want to charge upwards of £75 to diagnose and then more to repair the fault.

Any ideas on what could be causing this fault?

    Thanks

Drive motor or start/run capacitor a good bet. Capacitor a more likely candidate as they deteriorate over time, or not a lot of time in your case. Machine running empty is effortless for the motor, a load requires rather more grunt.

Power off, if you’re going to investigate.

Thought it might be the motor as that is where the changes cause the problem to manifest, but will try the capacitor first to see if that (hopefully) is the cause.

Is there a part code available for the capacitor or a link to it here as I can’t find it under Indesit?

    Thanks
