ParticipantHi,
Yesterday I was cleaning the inside of the door / drum seal of my 22 month old Indesit IWB5123 washing machine; when I noticed I could see part of the retaining spring wire (drum side).
I struggled to fit it back into place.
I removed it along with the front retaining wire and pulled the whole seal out and thoroughly cleaned it.My questions are:
1. What is the correct procedure to put this seal back in place?
(do I have to remove anything to get it back into place?)2. Although everything looks ok, could the retaining spring wire be damaged?
Thanks in advance for any help. π

Its not easy, and if the seal has already come slightly adrift there is a possibility that it will come off again.
A new seal may be a better option ( you don’t need to clean them if you do a regular maintenance wash).
You have to refit the seal to the drum making sure the drain hole is at the bottom then feed the wire spring around the seal, best of luck and make sure you remove the mains plug first.

put the seal and spring clamp in hot water first and put some washing up liquid on the lip of the seal that attaches to tub/tank, also on the spring as it lubricates it making it easier to fit. The spring is fiddly but it will go on

Thanks for the information guys; I appreciate your time.
Just to double-check, this refitting of the seal can be done without removing any thing like the top or face panel of the washing machine?(28-10-2011)

On most well designed, well made machines the front panel comes off, sadly yours is none of the above, π it can be a little easier if you lean it back against a wall or similar.
Taking the top off may help you to see what you are doing but you have to refit it through the hole in the front.

Job complete! (Time=45mins) π
Here’s how I did it in case anybody needs to do the same with this model.
1. Switch off plug.
2. Pull out washing machine so you can get to the back.
3. Undo 2 x cross screws underneath the back of the top.
4. Clean top of lid and then take the lid off. (The front will not come off itβs spot welded to the sides).
5. Take note of drain hole on rubber seal which should be at 6 o’clock.
You can tilt the machine forward so the drum goes in a bit to give you more room.
6. Put your seal through the door and gently work the inside of the door / drum seal underneath into the recess of the white surround of the drum; make sure you can feel that the recess that takes the circular spring it fitted into place all the way around; double check just to be sure.
7. Happy with that in place; start putting the circular spring into the recess, I started at the bottom and worked around until the last piece of the spring was at 12 o’clock.
You need to stretch and roll this spring into place; a bit fiddly but stick at it.
8. Again feel with your fingers that this spring is seated tightly into the rubber recess and fitted tightly to underside of the white drum surround.
9. Pull and fit the outside / front of the seal over the lip of the door area; again double check it visually to make sure it’s 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} in place
10. Place the wire (which has about 2, 1/2 inch of tensioning spring attached to it) into the groove.
11. Wipe down your machine, place lid back on, put screws back in, switch on and do a test wash to test for any leaks.Hopefully you have just saved yourself over Β£120 π , which is what Indesit wanted to charge me to fit this free part! :rolls:
(Thanks again iadom for your help π )

I would keep a close eye on the machine for the next few washes, if it comes adrift again then its new seal time.

Will do;
I think it came away on the spring side because I was very rough pulling the seal away to see if I could clean it.
I now know how it’s attached; so will be careful when cleaning the seal in future. 8) -
