Hi folks I have the above machine with a main motor that can be heard to stall when trying to start up. Helping the motor turn while starting will get the thing running, however it doesn’t sound very smooth!
The motor will also start up ok without load – i.e. belt removed.

With belt inplace it buzzes a couple of times then cuts off, so either the machine is detecting a problem or it is part of the starting sequence?

Now I have tried an insulation test and resistance readings on both stators and rotor coils and everything *seems* to measure within reasonable limits.

As I do not readily deal with motors or washing machines I would like help determining if I have a faulty control board or motor!

    Thanks,

    Olly.

Motor brushes clapped out by the sound of it!

Hi Martin, the brushes appear to be ok, they are a little scored but both extend about an inch when removed so I would have thought they had plenty of life left???

The commutator segments must show signs of blackening and arcing then I would have thought?

The worst part of the commutator is shown in the picture below – I suspect there is an issue with one or more windings?

So I am, just over a year old and seems a replacement motor is going to cost nearly as much as a new machine, and I assume the free parts offer will be worthless unless I get one of their techs, who no doubt will charge as much as it will cost me to purchase a motor 🙁

Our previous hoover did 9 years with two babies before the drum fell off its mount – it had one set of brushes and that was after 8 years!

Are Indesit generally reasonable or is it more a lottery these days?

    Re: Indesit IWD61450

ok motor came this morning straight in and the machine is happy now – I am going to replace the 3 motor control relays on the control board with some proper branded jobbies, as the chinese blocks in there look a bit cheap, I should imagine they might have suffered as a result of the motor failing…

    Thanks for the help!
