    Hi,
I’ve got an Indesit IWDE12 washing machine. It has recently stopped draining; if it’s told to do a wash cycle, it manages the initial wash fine, but instead of draining makes a low humming sound, and the power light and two others (the lights above the iron and 1200/600 buttons) start flashing rapidly.

From what I’ve been able to find it looks like the problem is probably that the drain pump is obstructed, and I should clear it out. So in the manual it says I should do this by unscrewing the pre-chamber lid on the front.

I’m able to unscrew this lid about a third of a revolution, and water drains out there; that’s how I was able to empty it. However, I’m unable to remove the lid itself. Does anyone know if there’s some trick to this? It feels loose when unscrewed, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to unscrew any further, but it won’t come out.
    Thanks
    Rob

Not being able to remove the lint filter in a drain pump is usually caused by one of two things.

    1) Foreign object stuck in the sump hose sticking part way into the filter chamber preventing the back of the lint filter coming beyond the pump inlet.

    2) Excessive scale built up in the chamber preventing the removal.

You need to remove the whole pump / filter assembly and check for bra wires etc. If there’s nothing poking out of the hose connections you can then remove the pump itself to investigate.
