ParticipantHello,
For some time now my washer has failed to finish its cycle and needs to be manually changed to spin. We only ever run a 1hr, 30c wash.
The washer also has a musty smell and a build up of mould on the rubber seal (because my requests to regularly run a hot cycle are ignored 😉 ). Because of this I planned to run a 90c wash yesterday using white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda.
When I ran this supposed 190min cycle, after 80mins there was no sign of any water in the drum or drum movement, just a lot of churning noises. The bicarbonate was still sitting in the detergent tray, untouched by any water. I gave up and changed the wash to another 60c cycle – again, no water or drum movement after a good 30mins. I changed back to the 30c 1hr cycle we always run. Water appeared in the drum and spinning but after the cycle the detergent tray was still bone dry and the bicarbonate still there.
The unit is only 3yrs old and my wife is looking to get it replaced. Before we do that I thought I’d seek help to understand if this is a fixable issue.
Any ideas what’s wrong with it?

Could be one of the fill valves has failed.
The heater itself is a common failure as well.
PS. Bicarbonate and white vinegar is virtually useless for cleaning your machine despite all the nonsense posted on the internet to the contrary.Using a very small dose of ‘green box’ powder detergent or a proprietary cleaner plus the regular hot washes is the way to go.

thanks for the reply. At least I only wasted a couple of quid on the vinegar/soda!
Let’s say it’s both the heater and fill valve that has failed. Would that be an economical repair? What I’m trying to understand is if it is worth an engineer and parts fee or if it makes more sense just to replace?

Heater and or fill valves not over expensive. A simple electrical test of those components is required.
