Indesit IWME147 door not opening

Hi

The door on our Indesit IWME147 is refusing to open. The handle is not fully locked like it usually would be during a cycle – you can pull it all the way out – but when you do so the door will still not open.

The rest of the functionality seems to be working fine – you can run a cycle on it as normal and it seems to be draining fully etc. There are no lights on.

This problem occurred before, rather than after, a cycle. We closed the door then went to open it to add something else and it wouldn’t open. We tried running a cycle, hoping that would fix the problem, but it hasn’t.

Any ideas as to what the problem is / how we can fix this?

Is it easy to replace yourself?

How do we open the door to get the clothes out?

power off
lid off
put your hand down inside and find the door lock. feel for the door hook in the lock and push it to open it. you smy have to use a small screwdriver or a small nail to help

once the door is open you can take the door off the machine, strip and replace handle

some people have been able to open some doors with string but it does not work with all doors
